Employee Job DescriptionJob Title:Shared Position: MTSS and Social Studies SpecialistJob Summary:The MTSS and Social Studies Specialist is a content leadership position in the Education and Learning Department. This position is responsible for the coordination, training, support and implementation of MTSS practices throughout the county at all levels. This includes helping schools and districts analyze data, systems and processes that will positively impact student outcomes. This position is also responsible for the coordination, training, support and leadership for social studies and related areas to schools and districts throughout Genesee County. The Specialist will focus on professional learning and instructional strategies related to improving pupil performance in social studies and related areas. Working in collaboration with other coordinators, specialists, district leaders and coaches is essential in this role as support is directed to serve the needs of local districts and public-school academies. Representing the Genesee Intermediate School District on state-wide and regional committees is also an essential part of the position.
Essential Duties (May include, but no limited to):
1. Maintains and stays updated on knowledge of social studies standards K-12 along with current legislation and grant opportunities that may impact curriculum and instruction.
2. Initiates regular and consistent communication with countywide leaders on social studies including resources, technology, virtual field trips, MDE updates as well as highlighting monthly themes aligned to social studies standards (i.e. Black History Month).
3. Maintains a knowledge base of each districts’ current social studies curriculum, instruction and assessment adoptions, practices, needs, strengths and challenges.
4. Analyzes and monitors state level and district data to assist districts in planning
5. Develops professional learning based on needs and feedback from district leaders as well as develops and creates professional learning with other coordinators that integrates ELA, Math and STEM areas.
6. Works with instructional technology staff to develop and implement social studies related instructional technology programs and related student support systems and programs.
7. Maintains and stays updated on knowledge of MTSS along with current legislation and grant opportunities that may impact curriculum and instruction.
8. Participates and attends countywide, regional and statewide meetings related to MTSS and social studies.
9. Initiates classroom modeling, coaching, and learning walks related to MTSS and social studies.
10. Knowledgeable of MTSS framework, Practice Profile and instructional strategies and classroom practices to support effective instruction.
11. Can apply the knowledge of MDE MTSS framework components to provide systems, processes, supports and resources to county educators.
12. Facilitates discussions on results from district Practice Profiles to determine needs and next steps around current systems, processes and practices.
13. Provides high quality professional learning aligned with MDE’s MTSS framework and practices using a variety of methods (i.e. virtual, district, classroom, coaching, etc.
14. Facilitates communication and collaboration with countywide MTSS coordinators, support staff and ISD MTSS leaders.
15. Collaborates with data, technology, curriculum, instruction and assessment specialists in planning and providing professional learning opportunities.
16. Maintains current knowledge of best practices in the field of educational technology.
17. Understands the continuous improvement process and works with constituent districts and buildings to address planning and implementation of instructional and professional development activities to improve pupils' academic learning.
18. Demonstrates an understanding of the needs of all learners and learning styles, including the at-risk and gifted learner. Includes appropriate strategies and content in programs and services.
19. Serves as a member of the Office of Education and Learning instructional planning team.
20. Consistently models Win-Win leadership.
