What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mate/Second Mate Marine Vessels Offshore position at GENESIS ENERGY, LLC?
The Mate shall be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the vessel and its tow, including, but not limited to the safe navigation and piloting of the vessel and its tow, the seaworthiness of the vessel and its Company owned tows, the safety of the crew and any passengers, protection of the environment, protection of the cargo or property of the charterer, charterer relations, bridge administration and paperwork, crew supervision and on the job training, and other responsibilities that may be assigned by the Master/Relief Master or that the Mate recognizes as essential to their responsibility to the Master.
Key Duties:
Safe piloting, navigation and maintenance of the vessel in compliance with the applicable laws and regulations of the vessel’s flag state, the international community, and the vessel’s locality in a manner responsible to the safety of the crew and the protection of the natural environment.
Operational management of the vessel as directed by the Master/Relief Master, including service delivery, bridge management, human resource management, and cost management in accordance with the policies and procedures of the Company.
Set and stand bridge and helm watches in rotation with other deck officers in the vessel crew.
Direct and supervise the deck crew in the execution of their duties as articulated on their own job descriptions, and as otherwise deemed necessary for the safe and efficient operation of the vessel.
Maintain courteous and professional relationships with Company charterers and charterer representatives without subordinating the safety and commercial goals of the Company to those of its customers.
Complete appropriate bridge management and human resource administrative tasks.
Required Skills, Experience, and Education:
Ability to read, write, render, understand, and react to commands given in English / Ability to read and write in Spanish is preferred
Valid driver’s license and TWIC card.
Must possess an U.S. Merchant Mariner’s document and a STCW training and certification booklet, as required by law.
Must possess the proper license by the U.S.C.G. for the type, tonnage, route and service of the vessel to which he/she is assigned.
Must possess a FCC Marine Radio Operators Permit.
