Registered Nurse- Radiation Oncology The role Position: Registered Nurse Division: Radiation Oncology Role Summary The primary purpose of the Radiation Oncology Registered Nurse is to provide appropriate clinical care, and education, and support the delivery of exceptional patient experience by responding to patient needs as part of a multidisciplinary team to deliver high quality care. The Registered Nurse demonstrates competence in providing nursing care to the radiation oncology patient as specified by Nurse Practice Act, the Board of Nursing. The registered nurse is expected to observe, conceptualize, and analyse clinical or nonclinical problems related to health; and to utilize critical thinking, evidence-based practice to collaborate with the health care team. Responsibilities include clinical practice, education, research, and consultation, as appropriate. Reporting lines: The Radiation Oncology Registered Nurse reports directly to the Center Leader in the absence of a Nurse Unit Manager. with a dotted line to the Director of Nursing. There are no direct reports to this position. Key responsibilities: The Registered Nurse provides comprehensive care to the patients at GenesisCare following the principles of evidenced based best practice. Collaborate with oncologists and the multidisciplinary team on patient care Facilitates Data collection and assessment during patient examinations and treatment Administers medications as per GenesisCare policy and procedure Perform nursing observations as per policy and procedure during procedures, including treatments that require sedation Attend to procedures and exams with the Physician or APP Performs venipuncture and IV fluid/medication administration as directed by physician or APP Completes contemporaneous documentation as per GenesisCare policy and procedure Establish a compassionate environment by providing emotional, psychological and spiritual support to patients, family and friends Provide comprehensive patient education as per GenesisCare policy and procedure Provide mentoring to junior staff and or students Attends annual OSHA/Biomedical update meetings and application in the clinical setting Maintain professional development and sets goals to address gaps or desired growth Protect patients and their families by adhering to HIPPA and infection control policy and procedure Contribute to the team effort by assisting with team goals Brings a positive, enthusiastic and ‘can-do’ attitude to work Develops and maintains professional working relationships Resonates with the high performance GenesisCare culture Key working relationships: As a Registered Nurse, you need to develop strong relationships with the following internal parties: Center Leader Physician(s) Nursing Team Radiation Therapists Patient Services Administrative duties: Properly control the release of proprietary and confidential information Schedule appointments and diagnostic tests Obtain prior authorizations from insurance companies Arrange for hospital admissions and laboratory services Handle correspondence, test results, etc Obtain medical clearance for patients prior to procedures or certain treatments Education and Experience: Essential: Hold and maintain a valid, unrestricted State License – RN Obtains ONC certification within 24 months of hire Sound clinical experience and competence as a Registered Nurse Exemplary interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to demonstrate empathy for patients and their carers Demonstrated clinical and problem-solving skills Ability to plan and coordinate the clinical management of care Commitment to and involvement in the application of quality improvement and evidence-based practice principles Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a team member Current BLS certification ACLS required for offices performing procedures Desirable: Experience in the field of oncology, working with a variety of patients Minimum of 1 year as a Registered Nurse Current ONC certification Other requirements for this role: Professional accountability for scope of practice Exemplary interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to demonstrate empathy for patients and their carers Well-developed organisational and time management skills Sensitivity and diplomacy Provide delivery of culturally appropriate nursing care Practice in accordance with all legislation affecting professional nursing practice Provide support health care team (however titled) and to others providing patient care, to ensure care is provided as outlined within the plan of care and according to institutional policies, protocols, and guidelines. Participate in self-evaluation and performance management in accordance with company guidelines. Commitment to and involvement in the application of quality improvement and evidence-based practice principles including the National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards, including participating in audits and review of practice, and contributing to continuous improvement Demonstrate commitment to quality of patient care Evidence of continuing professional development Demonstrate flexibility to adapt to unexpected changes Demonstrate ability to work collaboratively as a team member Minimum Physical Capabilities: In order to be able to perform normal duties as a Nurse, the worker must be able to perform all of the following physical capabilities: Lifting up to 22 lbs occasionally waist to shoulder height Unrestricted pushing and pulling waist to shoulder height Unrestricted reaching Sitting for up to 30mins at a time Unrestricted standing and walking Unrestricted bending and squatting Our purpose Our purpose is to create care experiences that get the best possible life outcomes.
