What are the responsibilities and job description for the Certified Athletic Trainer (On Call) position at Georgian Court University?
This position provides a full range of athletic training (AT) health care services for the University's NCAA II Division athletic teams. This includes , but is not limited to the prevention, evaluation, assessment, management, and treatment of injuries/illnesses, short-term and long-term rehabilitation of injuries, education and counseling of student-athletes, and related health care administration. Works in cooperation with and under the medical supervision of the Team Physician(s).
Pay rate: 45/hr
Essential Functions:
- Perform as certified athletic trainer in the prevention, evaluation, assessment, rehabilitation, management, treatment, and treatment of injuries and illnesses.
- Provide athletic training health care services for team practices and home contests.
- Make medical referrals and in consultation with supervising team physician, determine the medical clearance of student-athletes.
- Document and effectively communicate with coaches all medical restrictions for participation.
- Provide emergency care under the policies and procedures of the Office of Athletic Training and the Plan of Care with the supervising team physician(s).
- Assist with the formation and maintenance of student-athlete medical records.
- Maintain proper medical record keeping and documentation of all injuries and illnesses.
- Assist the Director of Sports Medicine with administrative responsibilities - including, but not limited to management / processing of insurance claims, review of policies and procedures, website management, supervision of student-workers or interns, etc.
- Share in the responsibilities of athletic training facility and fitness center maintenance and upkeep.
- Maintain proper certifications/licensure as required by the State of New Jersey.
- Abide by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Code of Ethics.

Secondary Responsibilities:
- Work with coaches and student-athletes to develop appropriate training regiments.
- Travel with teams and provide athletic training health care services
- Provide Athletic Training health care services for GCU camps and clinics (during contract period).
- Assist with facilitation of pre-participation physical exams.
- Assist in the implementation of institutional and NCAA student-athlete drug testing and education.
- Coordinate medical services for students majoring in Dance.
- Serve as a Clinical Preceptor for Seton Hall University’s Entry-Level Graduate Athletic Training Program
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree required.
- Certified Athletic Trainer by the Board of Certification.
- Licensed (or eligible for licensure) as an Athletic Trainer by the New Jersey Board of Medical Examiners.
- Current certification in CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer.
- Experience in an athletic training facility environment (collegiate preferred).
- Knowledge of NCAA regulations.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Strong computer skills and familiarity with electronic medical records
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
- Prior experience with neurocognitive and vestibular testing and rehabilitation.
- Maintain licensures/certifications in good standing through the completion of continuing education.
