We are looking for a dedicated and flexible Virtual Deaf and Hard of Hearing Teacher to become an integral part of our team. Your role will involve virtual instruction, collaboration with educational teams, and occasional travel to the district for coaching and meetings.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver virtual education to Deaf and Hard of Hearing students in Alaska (PreK-12).
- Collaborate with IEP teams to provide coaching and consulting support for Special Education teachers and Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs).
- Employ American Sign Language (ASL) and other communication methods tailored to meet each student’s unique requirements.
- Offer professional development and resources to enhance the capabilities of the school district.
- Travel to the district once or twice a month to participate in meetings and provide in-person assistance (flight expenses covered).
- Monitor and evaluate student progress to inform and refine instructional approaches.
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL), total communication, and/or spoken language.
- Strong independent working abilities alongside effective communication and collaboration skills.
- Experience in virtual instruction methodologies is preferred.
- A Bachelor's degree in Deaf Education or Special Education (Master’s degree preferred).
- Certification in Deaf Education or Special Education in Alaska (or willingness to obtain).
- Relevant experience working with Deaf or Hard of Hearing students, particularly in an online setting.
