What are the responsibilities and job description for the Level 1 Medical Aid position at Gibson Recovery Center, Inc?
- Adhere to Agency Policies and Procedures and Code of Ethics. Always maintain confidentiality for consumers and staff.
- Measure and record vital signs and monitor consumers in a withdrawal management program for signs and symptoms of withdrawal as required by the Department of Mental Health standards and Gibson Center for Behavioral Change Policies and Procedures.
- Educate consumers in groups and individually on medication issues and potential side effects.
- Promptly respond to consumers' medication inquiries, needs, problems, or side effects in an effective manner consistent with practice standards.
- Distribute, observe, and record consumers' medication(s) administration.
- Assist staff with medical/clinical functions as needed.
- Assist in admission, transfer, and discharge of consumers.
- Dispose of contaminated supplies and bio-hazardous waste according to GCBC policy.
- Screen telephone calls from persons interested in the withdrawal management program and provide information regarding the programs.
- Provide or coordinate transportation for emergency medical care if necessary.
- Prepare rooms for the consumers, keeping rooms neat and clean.
- Document according to clinical policies and procedures, DMH, CARF, and any other federal or state program per agency standards
- Orient's consumer and family (significant others) to the withdrawal management program.
- Performs basic tasks on the consumer such as pre-admission screenings, vital signs, blood pressure, specimen collections, temperature, and BAC.
- Communicates pertinent consumer information to DON and appropriate members of the treatment team.
- Attends/participates in departmental meetings.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
High School Diploma or GED and CNA or CMA with one-year experience, certified in Missouri. Prefer experience in the field of substance abuse and mental health treatment with knowledge of chemical withdrawals and co-occurring disorders. Must obtain and maintain all certifications including First Aid, CPR, and valid driver's license. Essential to have good prioritization skills and be able to multi-task while maintaining a therapeutic environment.
