Put your administrative support skills to work for the Hennepin County Department of Community Corrections and Rehabilitation. One full-time Office Specialist III position is currently available in the Restitution Unit of Adult Field Services. Work hours are 8 AM to 4:30 PM Monday through Friday. This position is located at the Grain Exchange North Building at 301 Fourth Avenue South in downtown Minneapolis.

Hennepin County Community Corrections supervises about 30,000 offenders at any given point in time. Caseloads range from serious offenders on supervised release (parole) from state prison, to misdemeanor offenders who may need to pay restitution or perform community service. The Adult Field Services Division includes a variety of programs that deal with offenders at different points as they move through the criminal justice system.

Primary Duties And Responsibilities Include

  • Provide front desk coverage, which involves a high level of in person and telephone public contact. Answer routine questions; assist clients in completing forms; accept and record corrections service fees and/or restitution payments.
  • Assist probation officers to correctly process documents, working from verbal and/or written instructions or by independently gathering and compiling information from a variety of sources (e.g. file notes or documents and/or various databases).
  • Input, retrieve and modify information stored in computerized systems.
  • Determine court referral types; distribute appropriate forms based on type of referral.
  • Compile and maintain accurate statistical information for monthly reporting.
  • Provide training and assistance as needed to staff, volunteers and interns on Microsoft Word, Lotus Notes and database systems.
  • Process high volume of incoming and outgoing mail.
  • Assist with special projects as requested by supervisor.

The Ideal Candidate Must Have

  • One of the following:
  • Two or more years of full-time office clerical experience (or part-time experience to equal two years of full-time experience).
  • Two or more years of related post high school education.
  • An approved combination of related education and experience.
  • Excellent customer service skills and the ability to conduct oneself professionally and handle sensitive/difficult issues in a confidential and tactful manner.
  • Ability to establish and maintain rapport with the public and staff, and to work harmoniously in a team environment.
  • Ability to interact effectively with individuals from socially, economically and culturally diverse backgrounds.
  • Intermediate to advanced skill using Microsoft Word and Excel; and Lotus Notes or other electronic email/calendar programs; ability to accurately type at least 50 words per minute.
  • Ability to perform high volume of data entry into computerized data systems.
  • Ability to express ideas clearly in written and verbal communications.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries.
  • Strong work ethic; good personal organization and time management skills.
