The Transportation Manager is responsible for all tribal transit operations and management; along with overseeing transportation planning completed within the Department of Transportation. The incumbent will be responsible for the day to day operation of the Communities public transit service; including the budgeting, hiring, scheduling and managing the transit staff and transit operations. The work is characterized by independently performing transit management functions, with full responsibility of the transit system operations. Will also oversee all transportation planning performed in-house or managed in-housed and completed by consultants.
· Manages and directs all aspects of the Community Transit Program, including personnel, cost control, budget, policies and operations.
· Oversees planning services and effective planning practices for the Department; assures plans are in conformance with Department and Community goals as well as in compliance with Tribal, State and Federal regulations.
· Oversees the Tribal Transportation Program (TTP) including reporting requirements, processing funding documents, and completing annual reporting requirements.
· Develops, solicit and writes grants; manage grants and completes all reporting requirements.
· Oversees the completion/update of the Long Range Transportation Plan and other transportation related plans required by the Community.
Prepares and presents agenda items to Council Committee and Community Council.
· Perform other related duties as assigned.
· Ability to manage projects/tasks/assignments of high degree of complexity.
· Knowledge of basic statistical methods and computer applications.
· Excellent oral and written communication skills.
· Ability to present ideas and plans in a public presentation forum.
· Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

· Ability to perform all physical requirements of the position; agree to maintain a Drug-free workplace.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Urban Planning, Transportation Planning, Public or Business Administration or a closely related field and a minimum of five (5) years of progressively more responsible experience in transit management, transit operations, or transportation planning; and which includes two (2) years supervisory experience which involved management of transit operations and management experience.
· Required to obtain a Tribal Operator’s permit. Valid state driver’s license with proof of driving record for the past 39 months will be required to qualify for a tribal driving permit. Proof of driving record must be submitted with application and must not be more than 60 days old from the date of submission of the application
