What are the responsibilities and job description for the Facilities Engineer position at Gillette Children's?
The Facilities Engineer performs corrective and preventative maintenance including installation, adjustment, cleaning and repairs for the buildings and grounds mechanical infrastructure including pools, facilities equipment and systems in accordance with Gillette Children’s standards. This position is second shift although has flexibility to be scheduled 5 days for 8-hour shifts or 4 days for 10-hour shifts and will require to be on-call at night every 5th weekend.
Knowledge of all building trades and ensures efficiency and reliability of electrical, mechanical, plumbing, medical gas, HVAC, building automation and other essential hospital and/or clinic systems to support a safe and healing environment. Provides leadership and training to new employees and can fill a ‘train-the-trainer’ role for new procedures for maintenance staff. The Facilities Engineer II assists the department supervisor and manager in developing preventive maintenance standards, improving delivery of maintenance services, problem solving and critical thinking related to facility and maintenance systems. They are a resource to other EOC staff, and work with vendors, contractors, Regions maintenance staff, landlords and others as applicable. They are knowledgeable with and are able to communicate effectively about services provided by Regions Hospital (including, HVAC, med gas, chilled water, steam, etc.).
Compensation & Benefits Information:
The hourly wage for this opportunity is $30.35 to $45.53 with a median wage of $37.94. Pay is dependent on several factors including relevant work experience, education, certification & licensure, and internal equity. Hourly pay is just one part of the compensation package for employees. Core Responsibilities and Duties:
Performs routine and preventative maintenance on all existing and new equipment/fixtures/furniture/finishes.
- Completes and documents monthly Preventative Maintenance (PM) schedules across all Gillette sites.
- Diagnose problems with equipment and correct/repair
- Document all work performed to provide continuous history of servicing
- Work within an electronic work request system (footprints or similar)
- Monitors and maintains adequate supplies/materials in the crib necessary to perform the job and meet budget parameters
- Monitors and adjusts HVAC systems through Building Automation System (BAS) as required
- Coordinates between vendors and contractors to assist with repairs, installation and remodels as necessary
- Ensures quality repairs to equipment and furnishings meets Gillette standards
- Moves/installs equipment and furnishings meet Gillette standards.
- Interacts with all “customers” including patients, their families, and the general public, in a timely manner that promotes excellence and a positive image of Gillette Children’s and its services
Provides quality management of outside maintenance resources.
- Works with non-Gillette vendors or subcontractors across all Gillette Metro locations
- Procures correct replacement parts (through Gillette Purchasing system) for all repairs and Preventative Maintenance
- Coordinates with Regions Hospital maintenance staff as needed for 200 University Avenue site mechanical/electrical/key control & lock replacement issues
- Works with Facilities project managers to coordinate assistance on project related tasks
Responsible for continuous quality assurance through quality management.
- Properly document all actions taken on each work request, including time spent and materials/parts consumed
- Assures proper Finance account numbers are charged on a task by task basis
- Assures work request is addressed promptly and that work is performed quickly and thoroughly
- Assists manager/supervisor in assessing changes in workload
- Acts as a source of information and a resource for the hospital on maintenance.
- Assists departments in finding alternate solutions to maintenance problems if an identified solution won't work.
- Maintains safe driving practices while using maintenance van, including daily inspection of vehicle. Provides routine maintenance as scheduled.

Qualifications:
Required
- 2 year technical degree & 1 year maintenance work experience in the following areas: low voltage, electronics, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and pneumatics, preferably in an acute care environment.
Or
- 3 years technical work experience in the following areas: low voltage, electronics, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and pneumatics.
Preferred
- Experience with HVAC equipment (operations/maintenance)
- O. water system knowledge
- Refrigerant handling certified
- MN Special Class Boilers License
- MN Certified Pool Operator License
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of Building Automation Systems (programming / troubleshooting / reporting / data analysis) to ensure efficient operation.
- Basic knowledge of life safety codes and regulations, including but not limited to Joint Commission
- Some knowledge of the healthcare environment
- Proficient in reading and verifying construction documents, electrical, pneumatic and mechanical schematics and shop drawings
- Ability to understand detailed maintenance / service instructions.
- Good oral and written and communication skills
- Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
- Ability to work effectively in teams
- Ability to work overtime when necessary to support high priority requests or meet project goals.
- Flexibility to work on several projects at the same time
- Valid driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record
- Ability to carry an assigned cell phone daily and the on-call pager on a rotating basis
- Excellent customer service skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365(Word, Excel and Outlook)
