Position Summary

The Camp Experience Coordinator is responsible for assisting with the management of the overall camp operations. Additionally, the coordinator focuses on the day-to-day operations including the creation of program materials, social media postings, and positive camper experiences.

Marine Landing Day Camp

Marine Landing is a waterfront facility with its own private beach. Daily activities for campers include kayaking, canoeing, paddleboarding and swimming. Due to the nature and number of aquatic activities, every staff member at Marine Landing is required to be lifeguard certified. Training is provided before camp begins, if needed. This camp is the perfect location for those who have a strong comfort in the water, want to spend their summer outside and make friends and memories that will last a lifetime.

The camp operates with daily exposure to various weather conditions and animals such as bugs, raccoons, and other wilderness animals common to the area.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Collaborate with Camp Leadership Team to ensure effective flow of operation for all areas of camp program.
    • Assist Outdoor Program Supervisor with activity, snack, and general camp supply orders.
    • Assist Camp Experience Manager with staff scheduling and assignment changes.
    • Collaborate with activity staff to create weekly unit schedules and staff assignments.
    • Develop special projects with Camp Jr. Counselors.
  2. Assist with the supervision and evaluation of camp staff to develop and implement program activities for all facets of camp.
    • Regularly supervise and give feedback to camp staff.
    • Provide recommendations and concerns to Camp Experience Manager regarding staff performances.
    • Participate enthusiastically in all camp activities, providing support and guidance to those assigned as leaders. 
    • Maintain clear and positive written and verbal communication with all camp staff.
  3. Ensure that camp staff and campers know and follow safety and educational procedures. 
    • Assist in the implementation of staff training for specific activity area. 
    • Train other staff in their responsibilities during activities. 
    • Ensure campers and staff follow safety procedures. 
    • Ensure that ACA standards, state codes, and guidelines from GSGLA are followed. 
    • Be aware of and implement safety guidelines.
    • Provide guidelines for programs utilizing camp equipment.    
  4. Assist in the management and care of the physical facilities and equipment in all program areas.  
    • Oversee daily checks of area and equipment for safety, cleanliness, and in good repair.  
    • Ensure that program areas are free of hazards and debris. 
    • Oversee care and storage of all program and waterfront equipment.  
    • Log use of activity equipment properly.
  5. Oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the overall camp operations. 
    • Address program concerns in a timely manner; effectively communicate changes and concerns with the Outdoor Program Supervisor. 
    • Assist in the planning and implementation of pre-camp staff training. 
    • Lead weekly staff meetings and participate in daily staff meetings as needed.
    • Provide outstanding customer service and outreach to families.
  6. Be a role model to campers and staff in your attitude and behavior.  
    • Follow and uphold all safety and security rules and procedures.  
    • Model exemplary behavior for campers and peers by adhering to camp protocols, maintaining cleanliness and sanitation, punctuality, and showcasing fairness and equity.  
  7. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Must be 18 years of age or be a high school graduate by the start of camp.
  • Must be available for 10 weeks of day camp (June 18, 2025 - August 22, 2025) and training dates that will be scheduled prior to camp.
  • Must hold valid Lifeguard and CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers certifications throughout the position’s employment dates listed.  Training will be available.
  • Must hold valid waterfront module certification. Training will be available.
  • Must have documented experience teaching or interacting with youth program.
  • Must submit a basic health history form as set by the American Camping Association.
  • Ability to lift up to 15 pounds periodically.
  • Must possess endurance including prolonged standing, some bending, stooping, and stretching.

Recommended Education, Training and Experience

  • College credits in health, child development, education, psychology, or related field.

GSGLA Employee Requirements

  • Comply with state-mandated reporter training
  • Attend GSGLA signature events and/or other activities as assigned

Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angeles requires its employees to be vaccinated against COVID-19, subject to certain exemptions as required by law.
