What are the responsibilities and job description for the Ophthalmic Assistant position at Glaucoma Consultants of Texas?
Growing ophthalmology/glaucoma specialty clinic with locations near the Grapevine and Fort Worth hospital districts has vacancies for the following positions:
1. Ophthalmic Technician
- For work up level, candidate must have previous experience in the ophthalmology field. Candidate should have the ability to perform tonometry by Goldmann, visual acuity, pupil assessment, EOMs, confrontational fields, and document a thorough chief complaint. The ideal technician will have strong work up skills with the potential to scribe. Computer knowledge and strong typing skills required.
- For testing level, previous ophthalmic or optometric experience encouraged, but not required. Job functions include performing diagnostic testing; OCT, Visual Field, Fundus Photo, and Diopsys. There is potential for the ideal candidate to achieve career advancement through training for work up technician level.
- For scribe level, candidate must have extensive experience in the ophthalmology field and be highly knowledgeable in all areas of ophthalmology, especially glaucoma. Scribe candidates should have strong typing and spelling/ grammar skills and the ability to accurately summarize/document the exam.
COA preferred, but not required. COA certification through JCAHPO is encouraged and provided by the practice.
2. Front Office Specialist
Job functions include, but not limited to:
- Handle multi-line phones
- Greet Patients
- Check patients in and out
- Schedule patient appointments
- Verify insurance
- Pre-certifying procedures
- Collect co-pays/co-insurance
- Posting / Balancing
Requirements:
- 2-3 years Medicare and Commercial insurance experience
- 2-3 years medical office scheduling experience
- Strong communication skills to clearly and effectively communicate with patients
- Well organized with high attention to detail
- Friendly and professional demeanor
- NextGen experience a plus
- Strong computer skills
- High School degree
- Bi-lingual (English and Spanish) a plus but not required

- Monday-Thursday 8am-5pm, Friday 8am-1pm

Pay: $1.00 - $2.00 per hour
