Full-Time Legal Assistant/Paralegal
We are seeking a full-time Legal Assistant/Paralegal to join our firm’s growing Trusts & Estates, Special Needs Planning and Elder Law practice. Office hours are from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Flexible scheduling is available.
Responsibilities:
- Provide administrative and paralegal support to attorneys in a fast-paced, busy and growing Trusts & Estate and Elder Law practice.
- Communicate with current and potential clients over the telephone, through email, and in person, including completing telephone intakes of prospective clients.
- Communicate with attorneys, court personnel and other professionals over the telephone, through email, and in person as needed.
- Prepare legal documents including retainer agreements and estate planning documents.
- Prepare estate and trust administration documentation, calendaring and tracking for estate and trust administration deadlines.
- Perform other clerical-related tasks such as scheduling, maintaining calendars, composing routine correspondence, receiving and processing incoming mail, and other administrative duties as assigned.
- Willingness to participate in out-of-office meetings with attorneys and clients in a variety of settings, as needed.
- Maintain client files in a digital format using firm’s document management system and in physical form as required.
Qualifications:
- Interest in trusts, wills, estate administration and probate, guardianships, special needs planning, guardianships and long-term care planning.
- Experience in an office setting, giving preference to work in the New York State Court System or a private law firm environment.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including verbal and written communication skills, demonstrative compassion and empathy, and interest in being a team-player.
- Ability to take attorney instruction, work independently, and prioritize and multitask, while maintaining a strong attention to detail.
- Willingness to be part of a team in an area of law that impacts people and families lives on a very personal level requiring engaging with sometimes high-needs and emotional people.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office products, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
