Job Summary: As a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA), you will play a crucial role in the assessment, treatment, and support of children with autism spectrum disorder. Working in collaboration with our team of experienced occupational therapists, speech therapists, BCBAs, and other specialists, you will help children develop essential life skills, improve their sensory processing abilities, and enhance their overall quality of life. Responsibilities:
- Assist in the development of individualized treatment plans based on assessment findings.
- Implement patient's individualized treatment plan as established by the primary Occupational Therapist.
- Work with other members of the team to develop programs consistent with the needs and capabilities of each patient.
- Implement evidence-based therapeutic interventions to address sensory processing difficulties, motor coordination, self-care skills, and social participation.
- Provide hands-on therapy sessions to children in both individual and group settings.
- Regularly assess and document each child's progress and adjust treatment plans as needed.
- Collaborate with the supervising occupational therapist to ensure treatment goals are met.
- Educate parents and caregivers about therapeutic strategies and activities they can incorporate into the child's daily routine.
- Offer guidance and support to families to facilitate a positive home environment for the child.
- Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team, including speech therapists, behavior analysts, and educators, to provide holistic care to each child.
- Attend team meetings and contribute to treatment planning discussions.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of therapy sessions, progress reports, and other relevant documentation.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory and licensing requirements.
- Stay current with the latest research and best practices in pediatric occupational therapy, particularly in the field of autism.
- Participate in continuing education opportunities to enhance your skills and knowledge.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Qualifications and Skills:
- Strong understanding of sensory processing and motor development in children.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with children, parents, and team members.
- Compassionate, patient, and dedicated to making a positive impact on the lives of children with autism.
Requirements:
- Must be a graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant Program according to AOTA and ACOTE standards.
- Current certification as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA).
- Must be licensed and/or eligible for licensure as required in the state of practice.
- Experience working with children with autism spectrum disorder is strongly preferred.
