The Product Development Project Engineer – Seating Systems serves as a central resource for the delivery of Interior and Driver’s Environment systems with emphasis on driver comfort and ergonomics with regards to seats.
Duties include Design, CAD modeling, BOM structure development, Engineering Releases and development of Engineering Requirements & Verification plans for New Product Development. The role will also support Sustaining projects including current product manufacturing and field issues root causing and determining engineering resolutions. The individual will provide support during system and vehicle validation as well as travel to test facilities and build events at manufacturing facilities. They will work with Supplier Quality and Purchasing as the project moves through program gates from concept to production. Involvement may last throughout all stages of a product’s lifecycle including modifications, upgrades and maintenance of the product or product line for seats.

Responsibilities:
- Ability to perform as an experienced Seating systems engineer as a Lead engineer
- Responsibilities include leading the design and development of seat structures and anchorage systems, defining seat architecture, installation best practices and overseeing validation activities
- Needs to have working knowledge of seats design, FMVSS regulations, seating systems test procedures and seat structure CAE analysis methods
- Will work mainly on Seat systems with interfacing on different systems such as Instrument Panels, Steering Wheels, Door Trims, Hard Trims, Soft Trims, Plastic and Rubber parts
- Ability to understand and help define seating systems comfort requirements
- Propose solutions for seating systems performance improvement
- Learn new Technologies and incorporate into products
- Work closely with Industrial Design team for Surface and Texture development of seat cushion fabric material
- Ability to work closely with Ergonomics team and Vehicle Architecture teams
- Engineering support for current production concerns
- CAD model and 2D print creation in NX/Team Center environment
- Support supplier requested design changes and help resolve quality concerns with guidance from experienced engineering team member
- Creation of DFMEAs and DVPs with guidance
- Work closely with Program teams to follow Product Development Process to delivery designs
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science
- At least 5 years of experience in product design/development for Seating systems
- Knowledge of global seating regulations
- Experience with seat frame structures, suspension systems, and restraints
- 3D modeling experience (NX preferred)
- Ability to lead complete seat work
- Ability to mentor team members
