What are the responsibilities and job description for the Protective Security Officer Captain - Northern VA position at Golden Svcs?
Captain will provide close supervision of protective security officers assigned to their respective shifts, posts, and facilities. In addition, will perform administrative tasks including timekeeping, disciplinary actions and report tracking. The captain will respond to after-hours incidents as directed by Contract Management or FPS Emergency Management. Captain will serve as supervisor and report directly to the Contract Manager. Other duties may be assigned.
Responsibilities
- Ensure scheduling practices follow contract requirements and is cost effective.
- Ensure each employee is familiar with their post, duties and responsibilities.
- Ensure the activities of guard force personnel are assigned, coordinated and supervised in a productive manner.
- Ensure proper management, supervision and training of probationary personnel.
- Ensure policies and procedures are followed and enforced by Shift Supervisors.
- Assist in identifying training needs for subordinates and recommending appropriate action.
- Assist with quality assurance testing and corrective measures.
- Continually review, evaluate operations and implement changes for improvement in morale and processes as needed.
- Understand the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), the Statement of Work (SOW), Post Orders and his/her role and responsibilities in executing the documents.
- Disseminate policies and procedures to guard force personnel and ensure Roll Call (Guard Mount) training for Shift Supervisors is conducted.
- Sustain a work environment that promotes and encourages an effective flow of communication, continuous process improvement, and teamwork within the organization.
- Promote a trusting relationship between security operations, the public, other law enforcement agencies, and FPS organizations.
- Provide briefing activities concerning unusual or major incidents as needed or when directed.
- Assist in monitoring movement of government property, as needed, to deter loss.
- Perform other duties as directed by the site management.
- Conduct post checks, including after-hours.
- Review, manage, and approve employee time-cards.
- Conduct spot checks of Shift Supervisor logs and Dispatch logs.
- Review, coordinate and interpret policy standards and directives; analyze and formulate strategies for the resolution of issues and concerns.
- Organize and/or oversee the preparation, update, and modification of site rules, regulations, policy and procedures.
- Update, distribute, and maintain General “Guard” Orders, Post Orders, emergency and special orders for each security post and position.
- Provide statistical data and/or other reports to the COR as required by the Statement of Work (SOW).
Qualifications
- Must be 21 years old
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or legally eligible to work in the United States.
- A minimum of two (2) years of security (armed), or one (1) year of law enforcement experience with a full-service police municipal, state or federal enforcement department; or a minimum of two (2) years of honorable service as a member of any US Armed Forces.
- A minimum of three (3) years of successful experience of field supervision (preferably in civilian community law enforcement, military law enforcement or commercial/industrial security force service)
- Must have a Social Security Card issued by the Social Security Administration
- Must have a H.S. Diploma or GED.
- Must be able to meet and continue to meet all applicable federal, state, county and municipal licensing requirements for Security Officers.
- Able to read, speak, write, and understand the English language and ability to prepare detailed written reports and fill out forms
- Able to pass a pre-employment physical and drug screening
- Must be able to pass a background investigation to include but not limited to criminal, credit and driving record checks
- Must be able to pass US Government background investigation for required security clearance if necessary
- Ability to obtain a Top-Secret Security Clearance
- Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office, Word, Excel
- Must have a strong working knowledge of security operations and safety practices in a business environment
- Must obtain a DCJS permit to carry a weapon
- Exceptional firearm proficiency
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with staff, the client and the public. Be able to prepare, understand and follow standard operating procedures; perform duties in a professional manner, write, prepare, and investigate required reports
- Must be able to manage and mentor a diverse group of employees, be respectful and approachable, willing to interact with direct reports daily, take direction from upper management and maintain a manner of professionalism in all interactions.
- Skill and ability to retain in-depth knowledge of applicable federal laws, orders, policies, and standard procedures relative to operations
- Ability to follow company safety rules and GS policies.
- Ability to maintain integrity and trustworthiness which is mandatory.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Driver’s License
- Ability to work rotating shifts and overtime.
