Description

SUMMARY

The Life Skills Instructor is responsible for providing the Life Skills Training and Development program to inmates at the Orange County Jail and Orange County Work Release Center. Develops and schedules Life Skills modules according to the training matrix developed for the program, ensures that appropriate attendance and training records are kept, prepares interim and final reports, monthly billings, and course evaluations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES

  1. Develop and present a series of Life Skills Modules as outlined in the statement of work in the contract with Orange County Community Redevelopment Program.
  2. Prepare and submit finalized class outlines and handouts to Orange County Corrections for approval.
  3. Prepare course materials and handouts for each class, ensuring that appropriate course materials and audio-visual equipment are in place for each class.
  4. Develop pre- and post-tests for each module and track results for Orange County Community Redevelopment Program.
  5. Maintain attendance records for billing purposes and to provide feedback to Orange County Corrections.
  6. Assist with program evaluation and outcome measurement.
  7. Prepare vendor billings in a timely manner.
  8. Distribute and collect client and referral satisfaction surveys in a timely manner to be used to evaluate program effectiveness.
  9. Serve as the program’s liaison to Orange County Corrections.
  10. Prepare class rosters and other materials required for monthly billings in a timely manner.
  11. Ensure that all required client data is accurately recorded in Goodwill’s Client Information System to provide accurate, current statistical data for the department’s monthly census, Goodwill’s Annual Statistical Report and quarterly outcome measurement.
  12. Prepare required reports for Goodwill Industries, Orange County Corrections and the Orange County Community Redevelopment Program.
  13. Promote an environment of cooperation and support where creativity and innovation are encouraged for participants, employees, co-workers, partners, and other stakeholders and customers.
  14. Demonstrate consistently professional demeanor in speech, actions and appearance, serving as a role model for participants, staff co-workers and community partners.
  15. Other duties as assigned.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES

  1. Assist in gathering data for completion of quarterly Outcome Measurement.
  2. Maintain updated and accurate client information in department’s Client Information System.

QUALIFICATIONS/COMPETENCIES

  7. Knowledge of techniques utilized to teach adults with challenging behaviors.
  8. Ability to pass Florida Level II background check.

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Education, Criminal Justice or related field is required. A minimum of two (2) years’ related experience with offender populations is required.

Math Ability:

Level 2: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have intermediate knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint. Beginner knowledge of databases required. Training will be provided in Client Information Systems.

Physical and Environmental Requirements:

  1. Regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  2. Vision abilities required by this job include: close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  3. Sitting and standing for long periods of time.
  4. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate (examples: business office with computers and printers, light traffic). Ability to hear normal sounds.

Language Ability:

Level 3: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups.

Reasoning Ability:

Level 3: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

License and Certifications:

Valid Florida Driver’s License with an insurable driving record and current private auto insurance policy.
