General Summary:
The accountant plays an important role in supporting the financial health of Goodwill South Central Wisconsin. They will perform day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of all financial records. Key responsibilities include preparing financial reports, conducting complex reconciliations, reviewing financial data, and mentoring team members, while maintaining compliance with all relevant accounting standards.
Requirements
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Verify, consolidate, and enter sales and revenue transactions for Goodwill stores and mission programs and prepare sales tax calculations and filings.
- Collaborate with the payroll specialist to ensure accurate journal entry recordings and serve as back-up in processing.
- Monitor Inventory activities and record expenses accordingly.
- Monitor grant expenditures and ensure alignment with budgets and prepare daily, monthly and quarterly reports as needed.
- Support in researching questions from department heads about posted accounting transactions.
- Perform month-end closing, within expected deadlines, including:
- Reconciling all Goodwill’s and Affiliate bank accounts and record applicable transactions.
- Reconciling the general ledger activities and preparing journal entries.
- Capitalizing applicable expenditures into fixed assets. Calculating and recording monthly depreciation expenses.
- Manage multiple prepaid and loan schedules
- Preparing and analyzing financial statements ensuring compliance with GAAP principles and company policies.
- Support the annual budget preparation process by aligning budget projections with historical data and organizational goals.
- Support with year-end closing and participate with internal or external audits including work schedule preparations.
- Collaborate with the payroll specialist to ensure proper journal entry recordings and serve as back-up in processing.
- Continuously assess and improve financial processes and systems.
- Stay informed about changes in accounting rules and regulations that may impact Goodwill’s financial well-being.
- Mentor and guide team members on accounting principles and best practices. Foster a collaborative and supportive team environment.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance
- 4 years in an accounting role
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP/IFRS).
- Experience with Sage Intacct accounting software, or similar cloud-based GL systems.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools including Excel

Salary : $72,000 - $82,000
