Job Description Summary
The Project Engineer II plans, designs, and manages water and wastewater system capital projects of medium to high complexity. The qualified individual will be responsible for providing technical expertise for water and wastewater capital projects in addition to supporting business development opportunities.
In April 2024, the EPA issued a primary drinking water regulation for six Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS). This position will be directly involved with the design and construction of PFAS treatment systems and solutions at Aqua North Carolina's water facilities and any additional PFAS mitigation efforts identified as a result of future federal, state, and local regulations.
Job Details
Responsibilities and duties for this position include:
  • Evaluate existing water and wastewater processes and recommend operational/treatment optimization measures
  • Prepare contract bid documents, plans and technical specifications for capital projects
  • Negotiate and prepare property easements and oversee the preparation of property descriptions, survey and legal recording as required
  • Coordinate and manage approved construction projects including high level design, schedule and budget, and construction administration
  • Review water and wastewater treatment process designs prepared by others to ensure the work meets the specific project requirements and Company standards.
  • Review Safe Drinking Water Act and Clean Water Act regulations, legislation, new technology and current trends impacting the water/wastewater industry (i.e., emerging contaminants such as PFAS)
  • Assist in the development and management of standards, specifications, and guidance for water and wastewater treatment and conveyance
  • Assist in the development of the Capital Improvement Plan (CIP)
  • Participate in activities of various professional organizations, and attend seminars and training courses when necessary to maintain technical competency
  • Perform other assignments as required

Qualifications
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer in the North Carolina (or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire date). A strong EI candidate will be considered.
  • Five (5) years' experience in water and wastewater engineering including both process design and project management, or equivalent
Education Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Civil, Environmental, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering or similar)
