Grafton Integrated Health Network is Hiring a Director of Nursing Near Cold Spring, MN

GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB

Under general supervision, manages and supervises functions of the nursing department within Grafton’s Residential Treatment Services in order to ensure effective delivery of care and compliance with administrative and clinical policies and procedures. Reports to the Executive Director with a dotted line to the Medical Director.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Manage, supervise, and coordinate the delivery of nursing services.
  • Ensure compliance with clinical /patient care standards and established policies and procedures.
  • Participates in the development of nursing services strategic and operational planning.
  • Participates in the development and enforcement of all applicable nursing services policies and procedures.
  • Participates in establishing communication between nursing staff and other health care professionals and administration.
  • Plans and conducts meetings with nursing staff to ensure compliance with established practices and to keep nursing staff abreast of current policies and procedures and documents such meetings.
  • Assist in the selection, provision and control of resources required for subsequent performance of duties to include equipment, supplies, space and facilities, ensuring cost containment and to optimize work environment.
  • Assists in the development of the facility infection control program and coordinates its implementation.
  • Serves as a professional role model and mentor to staff by responding positively to change while supporting colleagues through the change process. Serves as a change agent to facilitate communication and transition that supports the mission of the organization.
  • Maintains required records, reports and statistics for administrative purposes in order to ensure compliance with established policies, procedures, quality improvement and infection control.
  • Conducts various personnel action including but not limited to, hiring, orientation/training, performance appraisals, disciplinary action, termination and other related activities.
  • Participates in various facility wide meetings and committees on an as needed basis.
  • Plan, schedule and organize work for nurses at the designated campus ensuring proper delegation and assignment of personnel, space and facilities.
  • Approves leaves and overtime of all nursing staff.
  • Oversees nursing staff in their work of observing and monitoring student health; and documenting treatments and/or medical concerns on the student charts. Provide feedback and education to nursing staff regarding expectation and duties.
  • Coordinates the activities of nursing staff with other team members in order to provide efficient delivery of nursing care services including ensuring that orders, treatments, plans of care are being carried out.
  • Ensures documentation of nursing care services is complete and accurate in accordance with facility and unit organizational policies and procedures.
  • Secures necessary medical and dental services for clients. Attends scheduled appointments with clients as needed.
  • Maintains clinical competency and provides direct care services when needed.
  • Assists the psychiatrist when conducting medication assessments and reviews, or delegates same to nursing staff.
  • Receives reports of alleged abuse or neglect; Notifies Department of Social Services and licensing bodies of allegations of abuse or neglect; Coordinates investigations with external agencies; Conducts internal investigations; Prepares report of investigation findings and makes recommendations for corrective action. May also do the same for other significant incidents involving clients.
  • Facilitates development of internal and external corrective action plans and monitors implementation of corrective action plans; provides status reports, as requested, to the Director, Quality Assurance and Compliance and Executive Director.
  • Acts as an objective party to hear concerns or complaints about alleged human rights violations; Investigates and facilitates resolution; Reports complaints as necessary to regional human rights advocate and facilitates external review of such matters;
  • Assures information is entered into corporate tracking system, including resolution of complaints.
  • Assures protection of clients’ human rights through activities such as review of proposed restrictions, consideration of program guidelines and activities, monitoring use of pat downs and property searches, and ongoing monitoring of implemented environmental/individual restrictions.
  • Conducts in-service staff training related to nursing and health issues; teaches medication administration and related medication issues and practices to staff.
  • Performs other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Provide nursing staff backup on an as needed basis, in other Grafton locations.
  • Prepares and/or completes a variety of health services forms such as medication permission forms, on-call sheets, doctor/dentist appointment sheets, etc.
  • Completes audits to ensure accurate medical documentation as assigned.
  • Participates in the On-call rotation as needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Requires BA in Nursing; licensure as a Registered Nurse; 5-7 yrs demonstrated exp. as a nurse manager; exp. developing procedures, hiring, staff development, coordinating activities of physicians and physician extenders. Prefer Masters in Nursing and psychiatric experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Licensure as a Registered Nurse; certification as a Master Trainer in Medications management; and a valid driver’s license.
