GENERAL FUNCTIONS:
Under the general direction of the Child Care Director and supervision of the Lead Teacher, Childcare Staff members are responsible for the supervision and supportive management of a classroom in accordance with the philosophy, goals, and curriculum plan of the Middlecreek Area Community YMCA (MAC Y).
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Actively engaging with children

3. Modeling appropriate behaviors
4. Assist with lesson preparations and implementation
a. Following Pennsylvania Early Learning Standards
b. Following Creative Curriculum Guidelines
5. Assist in preparing lesson materials and implementing activities on a daily basis.
6. Maintain a welcoming, healthy, safe, clean environment that supports physical, emotional, and developmental skills.
7. Teaching and modeling good hygiene skills
8. Greeting parents and children warmly and enthusiastically
9. Maintain regular communication with supervisors, Child Care director, and families.
10. Assist with classroom schedule, classroom arrangement and organization
a. Following ERS (Environment Rating Scales)
11. Identify any learning barriers or concerns and report to Lead Teacher
12. Check work emails DAILY
13. Understand and apply the mission statement
14. Attend all staff meetings
15. Complete all necessary trainings (12 hours a year for STARS and mandatory training)
16. Attend Open Houses and family events
17. Maintain confidentiality regarding all personal information of children, families, and staff
18. Maintain a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in early childhood education
19. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS AND JOB SKILLS:
To perform this job successfully, the incumbent must have the following qualifications to successfully perform the position:
- Understand the GSV Y mission, the purpose of its programs, and be committed to the corporate operating principles.
· Strong interpersonal skills including ability to work and communicate effectively and collaboratively with other staff members and families; accept supervision and help promote a positive environment
· Warm nurturing attitude; friendly, inviting, self-motivated, even-tempered, and adaptable
· Maintain good physical health with the ability to perform job duties, lift 50 pounds, move quickly, bend, squat, kneel, sit on floor, reach over head
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE & CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS
- High School Diploma/GED
- Two years of childcare experience
- Successful completion of all required trainings, including Mandated Reporter, Health & Safety, STARS 101 & 102, and Fire Safety. Completion of 12 hours of professional development training each year.
- All YMCA staff must have, or be in the process of obtaining, CPR/AED and First Aid certification, and Child Abuse Prevention Training.
- Have a physical and TB test (negative) within 30 days prior to the start of employment
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $11.00 - $14.50 per hour
Expected hours: 20 – 35 per week
