Friends from around the corner and around the globe, from all different backgrounds and experiences gather together at Green Acre to explore how we can become agents of positive change. Green Acre hosts programs for 20 - 150 people for 3 - 10 days.
The Food Services Assistant serves with the Food Service Coordinator to provide healthy, delicious meals to visitors attending programs at the school. They contribute to the welcoming atmosphere of the food services area and dining room. The Assistant mentors and trains volunteers and summer kitchen staff and also is a role model. They contribute to strong, harmonious, and cooperative relationships through caring and considerate actions. They foster a culture of learning, fellowship, and consultation, modeling good character and an attitude of service. This is a full-time position.
KEY POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

- Contributes to the school culture of unity, learning, and collaboration.
- Applies cultural sensitivity and spiritual principles in attitude and behavior.

- Participates in staff meetings, study sessions, and events.
- Builds and maintains strong, positive, and collaborative relationships while striving for efficiency and excellence.
- Collaborates with staff to assist in the smooth functioning of all areas of the school.
- Plans menus in consultation with Food Services Coordinator.
- Prepares and cooks all meals following standard recipes, noting the need for a balanced diet and planning for vegetarian alternatives and special diets.
- Maintains an inventory of goods and supplies, orders and receives shipments, rotates food inventories.
- Assists the Coordinator in planning food production to coordinate with meal serving hours so that excellence, quality, temperature and appearance of food are preserved.
- Assists Coordinator in managing the budget and maintaining records of costs, especially in food preparation for large groups and in the use of materials and supplies.
- Assists the Coordinator or Lead to train, supervise, and accompany youth volunteers in their assigned duties, applying the principles of empowerment and capacity building.
- Maintains a high standard of safety with kitchen procedures, machinery and tools.
- Follows health regulations as established by state and local laws regarding food preparation, food storage, kitchen cleanliness.
- Supervises Food Service in the absence of the Coordinator.

18. Effective communication skills and the ability to learn.
19. Ability to provide helpful customer service and deal diplomatically with complaints and problems.
20. Demonstrates behavior that meets a high moral standard and serves as a model to the residential community.
21. Has or will obtain a Food Safety certification, able to safely operate all kitchen equipment.
22. Ability to successfully pass a thorough background investigation.
23. This job operates in a kitchen environment, housed with equipment such as an oven, stove, dishwasher, slicer, coffee machine, steamer, mixer and chef’s knives. The employee is frequently exposed to heat, steam, fire and noise. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is frequently required to stand and walk. The employee is occasionally required to sit, reach, lift, bend, kneel, stoop, climb, push and pull items weighing 50 pounds or less. The position requires manual dexterity; auditory and visual skills; and the ability to follow written and oral instructions and procedures.
