The Operational Accounting (OA) team is responsible for obtaining and analyzing the company's financial data and recording the actual results to the general ledger. The team ensures all financials recorded are complete and accurate to depict a proper representation of Groupon's financial position to internal and external stakeholders. You will play a meaningful role in the process of working with our business partners to obtain and analyze data for input into the accounting software. Your work will directly impact the success of teams within Groupon, ensuring that they have financial strength to build our mission.
The 2025 Summer Internship offers hands-on experience, providing a unique opportunity to gain deep insights into Groupon's operations and the operations of our Global Accounting department for a publicly traded US tech company. As a 2025 Summer Intern on the Operational Accounting team, you will support the team as they partner with leaders of various departments across the organization, actively contributing to Groupon's monthly accounting reporting, taking business data and analyzing it for accuracy, ensuring compliance with internally established controls, and performing ad-hoc projects. During this internship, you will also have opportunities to collaborate with other interns across the organization within the Finance, Marketing & Sales departments.
The 2025 Summer Internship program is scheduled to be 10 weeks from June 2, 2025 - August 8, 2025. The program will be a hybrid schedule based out of our Chicago office. Interns will be required to be in the Chicago office on Tuesdays and Thursdays each week which is consistent with our current US employee office policy. All other weekdays, interns have the flexibility to work remotely.
You'll spend time on the following :
- Assist in the preparation of monthly accounting reporting
- Engage in balance sheet and P&L analysis, explaining key performance drivers
- Work with Finance to explain any variances in actual results to forecasted figures
- Contribute to senior-level management presentations
- Assist in the development of new reconciliations of business data
- Collaborate with other teams to improve processes and report accuracy
- Perform ad hoc analysis on operational issues and help to drive efficiencies
