MAINTENANCE MECHANIC AIDE

Schedule: 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday - Thursday

Compensation: $27.95 per hour represents 90% of the full contract rate and may be in effect for one year. This position is covered by the collective bargaining agreement now in force with Local 1303-402 of Council #4, AFSCME, AFL-CIO.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Maintenance Mechanic Aide is responsible for performing semi-skilled work in several trades in order to properly maintain Authority owned and managed housing facilities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Responsible for performing a variety of miscellaneous mechanical and building trades tasks as assigned.
- Independently works on various adjustments and repairs. Repairs may be an emergency nature and the Aide is expected to respond as needs arise outside of normal working hours.
- Work is performed under general instruction from the Maintenance Mechanic and/ or Manager.
- Performs glazing, carpentry work on doors, walls, cabinets, locks and refrigerators.
- Performs minor electrical work on light fixtures, switches, wall receptacles, stoves and refrigerators.
- Performs plumbing work on sinks, toilets, drains and main sewers lines.
- Performs minor repair on electrical and gasoline motors, mowers, and replace worn parts.
- Performs minor pipe to fitting, mixes and pours concrete, sharpens tools, masonry work and caulking as required.
- Assist in the repair and maintenance of boilers and associated boiler systems.
- Responsible for the preparation of vacant apartments.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Good working knowledge of the methods, practices, and tools required to make the repairs to building structures machinery and equipment in the various building and mechanical trades.
- Skilled in the use of hand tools; good mechanical aptitude; ability to make necessary arithmetic computations, and to recognize and locate conditions which require repair and maintenance.
- Ability to learn quickly various semi-skilled trades.
- Ability to work from rough sketches and drawings.
- Ability to relate tactfully and courteously with the general public and residents in the housing authority.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Some experience in skilled and semi-skilled building and equipment maintenance work.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Must have valid Driver’s License and clean driving record
