What are the responsibilities and job description for the Classic Collection Mechanic position at Hagerty?
As a Classic Collection Mechanic, you’ll support Fleet Management by ensuring company owned collector vehicles are maintained in their best possible condition. You will perform updates and repairs where necessary, keeping vehicles in good condition, ready for use and display. You’ll be working with rare, luxury and collectible vehicles and should have knowledge of best practices regarding their care, operation and maintenance.

What You’ll Do
You’re a car enthusiast yourself, experienced working with collector and classic cars. Working on vehicles with carburetors, points and clutches are second nature and you’re able to offer advice on maintenance and troubleshooting to others in an encouraging manner.

What You’ll Do
- Keep all assigned vehicles maintained and in excellent working condition and appearance.
- Perform vehicle maintenance, repair and detailing for company owned vehicles based on proactive assessment of condition, preventive maintenance schedule and feedback from users.
- Inspects vehicles and equipment to align with preventive maintenance schedule and safety inspection standards.
- Adhere to operational department budget by applying appropriate service and parts purchase decisions.
- Occasionally support road calls regarding disabled vehicles for emergency repair work and/or assessing if vehicle needs to be towed.
- Assist with vehicle transport to various events and venues.
- Assist garage team with events.
- Complete projects in a timely manner and within budget.
- Compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other laws governing personnel, environmental and equipment safety and shop procedures.
- Contribute to maintaining records of repairs, costs, and vehicle warranties as needed to align with federal and state requirements.
- Perform preventive maintenance, repairs, and vehicle readiness on a variety of collector vehicles, maintaining records and/or work orders as required.
- This role includes washing, polishing and regularly driving the cars to keep them ready for exhibition and touring. We display our cars, and we drive them!
You’re a car enthusiast yourself, experienced working with collector and classic cars. Working on vehicles with carburetors, points and clutches are second nature and you’re able to offer advice on maintenance and troubleshooting to others in an encouraging manner.
- Strong experience troubleshooting, repairing and tuning cars, light trucks, carbureted vehicles
- Analog vehicle repairs, ability to diagnose and repair without the aid of OBDII system scanners.
- Vintage vehicle and/or automotive restoration experience
- ASE certified
- Clean MVR and valid driver’s license
- Ability to drive a variety of manual transmission vehicles proficiently
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision, demonstrating the motivation to increase your knowledge and technical skills
- Willingness and flexibility to work on a variety of tasks at various skill levels, from detailing to advanced repairs and all jobs in between.
- Detail oriented individual who takes pride in the results of their work
- Experience and confidence to work on high value vehicles
- Welding – MIG/TIG
- Strong professional communication skills
- Knowledge and appreciation for collectible, special interest, and exotic automobiles.
- This position is on-site at the Hagerty Learning Garage, Monday-Friday, 40 hours/week. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required to support various events and activations, and occasional travel may be required (up to 20%). Comp. time or overtime is awarded for irregular hours as needed.
- Occasional company-paid travel
- Familiarity with public company requirements, including Sarbanes Oxley and key regulations, if applicable. For SOX compliant roles, responsible for designing, executing, and documenting internal controls where they have been identified as owners to prevent errors in financial reporting, processes, and business operations. Including attestation to the completeness, accuracy, and compliance of all financial reporting data, where applicable.
- May include lifting of 50 lbs worth of materials.
