About Kateri Carbon

Kateri's mission is to restore degraded rangelands through regenerative grazing. Our data-driven approach helps ranchers manage their land regeneratively, transforming it into a natural carbon sink. We issue and sell carbon credits through rigorous measurement and analytical procedures and pass the majority of that value back to the ranchers.

Role Overview

As Kateri’s software engineer, you’ll play a pivotal role in building foundational technology within a small technical team. You’ll collaborate and communicate to delineate key tasks and associated requirements, but you’ll create infrastructure and software independently.

Responsibilities

Cloud infrastructure and CI/CD

• Automate provisioning and management of virtual machines and other cloud computing resources
• Establish secure connections between private networks to facilitate research and development as well as production workflows
• Write automated workflows for testing and deploying software updates

Data Integration

• Integrate new geospatial data sources into our existing database.
• Enhance and maintain our Python-based ETL infrastructure.
• Implement quality-of-life improvements to streamline data processing workflows.

Webapp Backend Support

• Work alongside our full-stack web developer to implement backend functionalities in Node.js.
• Integrate cloud infrastructure components to support scalable and reliable operations.
• Optimize backend processes for performance and scalability.

Model Productization and Deployment

• Develop prototypes code into robust, fault tolerant, and performant system components
• Deploy productized solutions in a production context

Requirements

• Experience with provisioning and using cloud infrastructure.
• Strong proficiency in Python for backend development and data processing.
• Minimum 5 years of professional experience in software development.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Solid understanding of database systems.
• Experience with geospatial data handling.
• Ability to architect and design software systems that are scalable, maintainable, and secure.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex issues.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.

Nice-to-Have

• Experience with frontend technologies (e.g., TypeScript, React) for occasional frontend support.
• Exposure to networking / IT concepts.
• Familiarity with GIS (Geographic Information System) concepts and tools.
• Previous experience in environmental or sustainability-focused projects.
