Deputy - Part Time - Towing and Storage

The deputy will be assigned to the Towing and Storage Unit of the Vehicular Crimes Division and will be primarily responsible for ensuring vehicle storage facilities, tow companies, and tow truck drivers follow laws and regulations set forth by Harris County, the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations, the Texas Occupations Code, and other
Mandates.
 
Duties and Responsibilities ~ Tow Truck Inspector:

• Conduct inspections on tow trucks
• Approve or deny tow truck permit applications
• Handle any communication concerning complaints on Harris County tow truck drivers
• Enter and maintain data obtained on tow companies, trucks, and storage lots
• Deposit all monies obtained from permits, licenses, and purchases
• Conduct criminal history checks of all companies and persons applying for a tow permit
• Maintain supplies and inventory for all tow truck inspections
• Instruct TCOLE courses and tow truck ordinance classes throughout the year
• Generate and disseminate monthly reports
• Testify in court proceedings as necessary
• Perform other assignments and duties as required or necessary

Duties and Responsibilities ~ Storage Lot Inspector:

• Approve or deny storage lot applications
• Inspect and investigate storage facilities in accordance with proper laws and regulations
• Plan and set auctions for vehicles towed from Harris County law enforcement scenes
• Check all auction vehicles’ identification numbers, storage facility documentation, and for stolen before
• the auction
• Maintain documentation of police auctions
• Conduct all other follow-up actions involved in vehicle auctions
• Conduct orientations for new storage lot owners and employees
• Send notification to owners and lien holders
• Generate monthly reports for storage lots, vehicles auctioned, and seven-day letters
• Perform other assignments and duties as required or necessary

• Must be an Honorably Retired Peace Officer
• A minimum of fifteen (15) years of experience in law enforcement or a related field 
• Must have an active TCOLE Peace Officer License 
• Willing to accept, attend, and successfully complete additional training as required
• Must present a professional image

Knowledge of:

• Department policy and Patrol procedures
• Superion MCT / MFR, JWEB, and other law enforcement databases
• Harris County Tow Truck Ordinance
• Transportation Code; Administrative Code; Occupations Code

Skilled in:

• Proficiency in using computers with related knowledge of software programs such as Microsoft Office 

Word, Excel, and Outlook

• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
• Excellent organizational skills

Ability to:

• Work as a team member and be a team player
• Perform in high volume environment with time constraints
• Multi-task and manage a workload with great attention to detail

• TCOLE Instructor License
• Bilingual in Spanish

 BENEFITS:
 This is a part-time temporary position without benefits
 HOURS:     

• A minimum of 20 hours per week with a maximum of 30 hours per week
• Hours are based on the needs of the department
• Possibly including Weekends and Holidays

• Houston
