Summary : Performs preventative maintenance and repairs on Roads and Grounds equipment. Services vehicles assigned to the Security, Maintenance, Custodial and Paint departments.
Relationships :
1. Reports directly to the Roads and Grounds Supervisor.
2. Advises supervisors of condition and mechanical needs of equipment.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities :
1. Sets up preventative maintenance schedules for equipment.
2. Schedules equipment for service and repair.
3. Assists in proper training in personnel operating equipment.
4. Supervises personnel assigned to help with servicing equipment.
5. Perform repairs as necessary to keep equipment operational and safe.
6. Orders necessary parts and supplies for repairs and service of equipment.
7. Send equipment to proper vendors for warranty repairs or repairs not performed in-house; such as engine, transmission and clutch overhauls for tractors and trucks.
8. Keep shop equipment in good working order, i.e. arc welder, tire changer, jacks, grinders, etc.
9. Ensures proper disposal of hazardous materials.
10. Assists other departments as needed.
11. Responsible for special duties as assigned, such as : welding metal fabrication, grinding and painting.
12. Operates a snowplow when required.
13. Must be able to work independently with little or no supervision.
14. Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :
1. Knowledge of small engine service and repair procedures.
2. Working knowledge of methods and materials used in servicing automotive equipment.
3. Possess welding skills, gas and arc.
4. Ability to supervise and instruct assigned personnel.
5. Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
6. Knowledge of snow removal procedures and equipment.
7. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees.
8. Ability to fabricate replacement parts and repair tools.
Minimum Qualifications :
1. Must have a valid Colorado driver’s license.
2. Must have valid automobile insurance.
3. Must have good driving record.
Education / Experience :
1. High School diploma.
2. Training in small engine repair
3. Training in troubleshooting and repairing hydraulic systems.
4. Three years’ experience maintaining Roads and Grounds maintenance equipment or equivalent.
Physical Requirements :
1. Must be able to lift a minimum of 100 lbs.
2. Must be able to stand and / or walk for long periods of time.
3. Must be able to operate a motor vehicle.
4. Must be able to operate various hand tools effectively and safely.
5. Must be able to operate power tools effectively and safely.
6. Must have normal sight and hearing. Corrective lenses and hearing aids are acceptable.
7. Must be capable of prolonged overhead work.
8. Must be able to do repeated lifting, bending and kneeling.
