General Statement of Duties

Working with individuals who have intellectual disabilities and providing support and supervision in a residential setting are the responsibilities of the Relief Training Assistant position. The following are only a few examples of duties :
Essential Duties
- Provide support for individuals with intellectual disabilities in community activities and with interpersonal interactions; the ability to demonstrate respect for clients while demonstrating good interpersonal skills; patience; empathy; and good judgment
- Provide assistance during bathing, dressing, and toileting to include lifting and transferring, learning new skills in residential and community settings
- Perform personal care tasks, including assistance with basic personal hygiene and grooming, feeding, ambulation, medical monitoring, and household chores
- Remind and assist clients with self-administration of medications (after proper training)
- Report changes in the client's condition or family situation to administrators and supervisors
- Document services are provided in an electronic health record and on paper
- Perform home management functions such as light housekeeping, laundry, bedmaking, and cleaning
- Plan meals, shop for groceries, prepare and serve food and meals, feed if necessary, and clean up
- Accompany clients to scheduled appointments, transport clients, or run errands for and with clients
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from high school and one (1) year of human services experience, preferably in working with persons with disabilities; OR , any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

A criminal history record check and fingerprinting is conducted on all persons conditionally offered employment, including a conditional offer of initial employment, or a conditional offer to promote, demote, or laterally transfer an employee.
Possession of a valid Virginia driver's license is required.
Some positions in the class may require possession of a valid Virginia Commercial driver's license, with endorsements and without restrictions.
May require a pre-employment and / or annual physical examination and / or medical tests administered by Henrico County Employee Health Services, the components of which are based on and appropriate to the specific sensory and / or physical demands of the given position, or on standards established by the State of Virginia.
