Job Title: Painter/Coater
Job Grade: 14
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Reports To: Production Supervisor

Job Purpose: Prepare parts to be painted to quality standards. Ensure safe/clean working environment.
Essential Functions include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Set up respirator and prep tanks prior to coating and/or painting.
Change out MEK waste, paper from the floor, filters from exhaust and main pumps.
Checks in with supervisor for jobs to start, as needed. Move tanks in/out of paint bays.
Mixes paint and ensure that correct tip sizes are used for painting.
Checks fan speed, filters and wet mil thickness while painting.
Apply chemical compounds, use hazardous chemicals to clean equipment, deposit the hazardous material into designated containers for reclaim.
Ensure all containers containing hazardous materials are labeled and kept covered when not actively in use.
Properly dispose of hazardous waste in accordance to KDHE requirements including spraying waste paint into designated containers and also when running chemicals through spray equipment.
Comply with prescribed safety procedures or federal laws regulating waste disposal methods.
Additional hazardous waste activities may include, with further training, operating the solvent reclaimer, conducting weekly inspections of hazardous waste storage areas, reviewing/signing waste disposal manifests, moving hazardous waste containers to storage area, cleanup of minor chemical/hazardous waste spills.
Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations..
Secures tools, materials and equipment at end of day
Complete initial and continued training related to hazardous waste management.
Regular attendance and timeliness.
Performs additional duties as needed.
Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent preferred plus industrial painting experience required.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly communicate detailed information to customers, coworkers and management.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as procedure manuals and job instructions.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions and percentages.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Ability to manage time effectively and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Ability to use hand tools.
Ability to use power tools, such as drill and saw.
Ability to use department equipment such as coating and blasting equipment.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, bend, kneel, climb stairs and walk; use hands, fingers and arms to hold and operate high-pressure blasting hose. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds for men or 30 pounds for women. Employee is to wear required PPE such as fresh air hoods, ear/eye/hand protection and paint suits. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
The work environment is usually an indoor setting with frequent exposure to outside elements. The noise level in the work environment is frequently high.
Must abide by PPE requirements.
