POSITION DESCRIPTION:
HIAS PA is looking for a Staff Accountant to join the Finance Team. The Staff Accountant’s responsibilities will include maintaining financial records and reports, performing account reconciliations, assisting with budget and close processes, internal audits, and maintaining accounts payable, accounts receivable documentation, and payroll information. This position reports to the Finance Director and will assist the DOF as needed and respond to information requests by management and for auditing purposes.
The ideal candidate for this role:
- Has at least 3 years of nonprofit accounting experience,
- Is detail-oriented, with excellent communication, organizational, and analytical skills,
- Has a strong knowledge of and ability to comply with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP),
- Has the demonstrated ability to accurately maintain a general ledger,
- Is comfortable working in a diverse workplace with a diverse client base.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Cash / Revenue:
- Review cash receipt journal entries and submit them to the DOF for approval.
- Enter all cash receipts into a proprietary general ledger system.
- Verify credit card online receipts.
- Manage petty cash accounts.
Accounts Receivable:
- Ensure that all claims are coded and entered into the general ledger.
- Provide supporting documentation and verification of amounts claimed.
- Reconcile subsidiary ledgers to control accounts every month.
Accounts Payable:
- Review Accounts Payable invoices and compare them to the check request form, as required.
- Code invoices before entering them into the Accounts Payable subsidiary ledger.
- Review corporate credit card transactions and supporting documentation.
- Process cash disbursements of monthly bills.
Analysis:
- Prepare journal entries, analysis, and monthly account reconciliations, assist with monthly close processes, and work to resolve any discrepancies.
- Performing monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
- Maintain fixed asset and related depreciation schedules, analysis of budget-to-actual reports by program, and funding source.
- Prepare Ad-hoc reports as directed by the DOF.
QUALIFICATIONS, BENEFITS, & MORE
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- A bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance is required.
- 3 years of accounting experience, nonprofit accounting experience is preferred
- Proficiency with QuickBooks, Fund EZ, Excel, and MS Word
- Strong analytical skills, and excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Working knowledge of GAAP and excellent work habits.
- Flexibility and willingness to complete special projects and meet important deadlines.

HIAS Pennsylvania is currently working on a hybrid work model. HIAS Pennsylvania requires all staff to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 with the exception of those who have approved medical or religious belief exemptions.
