**LOOKING FOR 2ND AND 3RD SHIFT**
JOB TITLE: Direct Support Professional
JOB CLASSIFICATION: Mental Health Aide 2
REPORTS TO: Supervisor
SUMMARY: Provide high-quality care and support to adults with intellectual disabilities in a group home setting. The DSP will work under Alabama Department of Mental Health guidelines and follow Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) standards to enhance the quality of life and promote independence for the individuals served.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
1. Assist individuals with daily living activities, including personal hygiene, meal preparation, and household tasks.
2. Implement and support individuals’ Person-Centered Plans to address their unique needs and goals.
3. Provide direct support and companionship, fostering a positive and respectful environment.
4. Monitor and report changes in individuals' health and behavior, ensuring timely intervention as needed.
5. Assist with medication administration and ensure adherence to prescribed treatments.
6. Handle emergencies, following established protocols to ensure the safety and well-being of individuals.
7. Maintain accurate and timely documentation of daily activities, behavior logs, incident reports, and progress notes.
8. Ensure compliance with Alabama Department of Mental Health guidelines and HCBS standards.
9. Protect confidentiality and safeguard individual records in compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996.
10. Support individuals in participating in community activities and social events, promoting integration and engagement.
11. Assist with scheduling and transporting individuals to and from medical appointments, social outings, and other activities.
12. Work collaboratively with other staff members and professionals to provide comprehensive support.
13. Participate in team meetings and contribute to the development of strategies to improve individual care and service delivery.
14. Engage in ongoing training to stay current with best practices, HCBS guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
15. Support new staff by providing orientation and sharing knowledge of individual needs and care plans.
16. Perform other reasonable, related duties as assigned by immediate supervisor and other management, as required.
DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1. Understanding of intellectual disabilities and mental health issues.
2. Familiarity with Alabama Department of Mental Health guidelines and HCBS standards.
3. Knowledge of behavior management and motivational strategies.
4. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
5. Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
6. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or G.E.D.
Valid Alabama Driver's License.
Must be able to perform CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation). The employee must be able to physically demonstrate that he or she is able to perform CPR including an on-the-ground demonstration of CPR proficiency"
