Position Summary:
The Building Principal Substitute serves as the acting principal in the absence of the assigned elementary or secondary school principal. This role involves overseeing daily school operations, ensuring a safe and productive learning environment, and maintaining consistent communication with students, staff, and parents. The ideal candidate will be an experienced educator with strong leadership skills, capable of making informed decisions and managing school activities effectively.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Administration:
Assume the role of the school principal during their absence, ensuring smooth and continuous school operations.
Implement school policies and procedures, adhering to district guidelines and educational standards.
Provide leadership and direction to staff, fostering a positive and collaborative school culture.
Student Management:
Ensure a safe and orderly environment conducive to learning.
Address student disciplinary issues in accordance with school and district policies.
Promote and support student engagement in academic and extracurricular activities.
Staff Supervision:
Oversee the daily activities of teachers and support staff, providing guidance and support as needed.
Conduct classroom observations and provide feedback to teachers when appropriate.
Coordinate with school staff to ensure coverage for absent teachers or staff members.
Communication and Collaboration:
Maintain open lines of communication with students, parents, and staff to address concerns and share important information.
Collaborate with district administrators and other school leaders to ensure consistency in decision-making and policy enforcement.
Serve as the primary point of contact for parents and guardians in the absence of the principal.
Crisis Management:
Respond promptly to emergencies and unexpected situations, ensuring the safety and well-being of students and staff.
Make timely decisions in coordination with district leadership during crisis situations.
Administrative Duties:
Oversee daily attendance, ensuring accurate record-keeping and reporting.
Monitor school facilities and grounds to ensure a clean, safe, and welcoming environment.
Manage school schedules, including class rotations, events, and staff meetings.
Qualifications:
Education and Certification:
Master’s degree in Education Administration, Leadership, or a related education field.
Rhode Island Building Level Administrator Certificate (PK-12)
Experience:
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in educational leadership or school administration.
Skills and Competencies:
Strong understanding of school operations, policies, and procedures.
Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
Experience working in an elementary or secondary school setting is preferred.
