The purpose of Highway Christian Academy is to provide a solid academic education from a Christian perspective. Our educational program is designed for children whose parents are committed to their children receiving a quality education based on Biblical principles. We consider ourselves to be an extension of the home and church.
We are seeking serious Christian candidates who are active members of a local church and advocates for the Gospel, committed to integrating a biblical Christian worldview into daily educational programming. Church attendance and a pastoral reference is required.
Job Summary: The classroom teacher supports and advances the mission of Highway Christian Academy by directing the educational, social, and emotional environment of a class of students; they report to the Principal. The classroom teacher is responsible for fostering the intellectual and social development of children ages 5 to 6 years old in the first phase of their elementary school experience, or kindergarten.
Duties & Responsibilities:
· Demonstrates mastery of related subject matter, instructional skills, and resource materials for course(s) taught, and the ability to explain new concepts and ideas to students who are learning for the first time.
· Creates and implements lesson plans aligned with the school’s curriculum guidelines, as well as Virginia’s Standards of Learning, which drives instruction through formative assessment and differentiation.
· Maintains a safe, positive, organized classroom, which supports students’ independent learning, collaboration and choice.
· Utilizes a variety of effective instructional and management techniques.
· Provides a variety of assessments and uses assessments for planning and instruction.
· Provides consistent, immediate feedback to student learning and asks analytical questions that elicit students’ responses that incorporate prior knowledge, life experience and interests that are directly related to the content objective.
· Uses available technology/instructional media to enhance the students’ learning experiences.
· Establishes and maintains appropriate relationships with students, parents, staff and community members by communicating in a tactful, courteous and confidential manner.
· Appropriately communicates and interacts with other professional staff in academic planning and school committee work.
· Supervises classroom teaching assistants and volunteers.
· Attends and participates in staff meetings and extra-curricular/school-related activities and committees.
· Demonstrates a commitment to continuous professional growth and works with the school director to formulate and complete professional development plans.
· Maintains a professional appearance, and demonstrates behavior that is conscientious and responsible.
· Engages parents and guardians in the education of their children.
· Models professional, moral and ethical standards as well as personal integrity in all interactions.
· Performs other job-related duties as may, from time-to-time, be assigned by the school director in accordance with school policies and practices.
Education / Experience: Candidates should identify as Christians and be capable of integrating the biblical Christian worldview into daily educational activities. A candidate with a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education or ECE through Kindergarten is preferred. Classroom teaching experience is preferred but not required if the candidate is newly licensed.
Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s Degree required.
· Teacher Certification preferred.
· Ability to pass criminal background check.
· CPR and First Aid Certification or willingness to obtain within 90 days.
· Be able to lift up to 70 pounds.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Applicants with prior teaching experience should come highly recommended. Desired skills for the Lead Kindergarten Teacher position include:
· Degree in elementary education preferred.
· Previous experience in teaching, childcare or other related fields preferred.
· Passionate about working with children.
· Ability to build rapport with children.
· Positive and patient demeanor.
· Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to sustain open lines of communication between parents, fellow staff and students.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $30,000.00 - $35,000.00 per year
