LOCATION: Elementary School
JOB CLASSIFICATION: Class 2, Group A
DAYS OF EMPLOYMENT: 193 days per school year
HOURS OF EMPLOYMENT: 7.5 hours per day
JOB GOAL:
To assist the Building Principal in the operation of the school by providing clerical services in a proficient manner in order to maximize the positive impact on the education of the students.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF JOB:
1. Provides written communication to parents, students, and faculty, to include the typing or word processing of letters and forms.
2. Makes telephone contact with parents as directed by school nurse or Building Principal to report illness and/or injuries.
3. Makes announcements within the building to include calling buses at dismissal, notification of upcoming events and deadlines, and other items as requested by the Building Principal.
4. Initiates and maintains filing systems for all office documents, student records, and faculty records.
5. Responds to requests for information and refers to appropriate resource.
6. Maintains records of student attendance and reports the same on report cards and other required forms.
7. Operates office equipment to include PA System, PC, fax, telephones, and photocopier.
8. Schedules meetings and appointments as requested.
9. Requests audio visual materials and schedules large group instruction room and cafeteria for group activities as requested.
10. Prepares and distributes all building newsletters.
11. Prepares statistics for various reports as requested by Building Principal.
12. Attends faculty advisory meetings and prepares and distributes minutes of same.
13. Prepares purchase orders, orders office supplies, manages office petty cash, and budget documents as requested.
14. Prepares Employee Performance Rating Forms and forwards to Human Resources Office.
15. Prepares student honor roll and student awards.
16. Completes field trip requests and confirms bus transportation.
17. Updates building handbooks and policy manuals as requested.
18. Assists with maintaining building bulletin boards and showcases.
OTHER DUTIES OF JOB:
19. Sorts, distributes, and delivers interoffice mail and other documents.
20. Supervises ticket sales and collection of monies for special events.
21. Assists with kindergarten registration.
22. Assists with PTO meetings.
23. Performs other duties as assigned by Building Principal.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Receives direct supervision from the Building Principal in regard to work duties.
SUPERVISION GIVEN:
None
WORKING CONDITIONS:
1. Works indoors in adequate work space, lighting and temperatures but limited ventilation.
2. Works with average indoor exposure to noise and stress but subject to constant disruptions.
3. Normal indoor exposure to dust/dirt.
4. Periodically exposed to irate students, parents, staff members, and/or community members.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL CONDITIONS:
1. Must possess hearing, seeing, speaking, smelling, and reasoning senses necessary to carry out job duties.
2. Must possess ability to record, convey, and present information; explain policies and procedures; and follow instructions.
3. Must be able to sit, stand, and walk for intermittent periods throughout the workday with frequent twisting, bending, carrying, squatting, climbing, pushing, grasping as necessary to carry out job duties.
4. Dexterity requirements range from coordinated movements of hands/fingers to operate computer to simple movements of feet/legs and torso necessary to carry out job duties.
5. Must be able to pay close attention to details and concentrate on work.
6. Light work with occasional lifting and carrying of objects of weights of approximately twenty pounds.
QUALIFICATIONS:
A. EDUCATION/TRAINING:
High School Diploma
B. WORK EXPERIENCE:
One to two years experience working in related clerical field.

1. Must be able to speak and understand the English language in an understandable manner in order to carry out essential function of job.
