Reports to: HFSL Principal
Hours: (This is a full-time 10-month position) – 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday
Location: Holy Family Specialized Learning
MISSION AND NEED: Holy Family Institute (HFI) is a 120-year-old Catholic organization with an impeccable history of serving children and families in the Pittsburgh Region. We are one of Pittsburgh’s largest social service organizations operating 15 programs in three counties. We are an independent organization guided by Catholic Social Teachings and serving people of all faiths and backgrounds.
General Statement of Duties:
The Art teacher will develop lesson plans and lead creative activities for youth of different ages. These activities will explore mainly visual arts, encourage creative expression, and allow for the exploration of different mediums.
Essential Functions:
· Guide students through activities that may include but are not limited to painting, drawing, designing, sculpting, and other creative techniques.
· Prepare lesson plans and supervise all creative activities in the art classroom. Will be responsible for the management and maintenance of art supplies, materials, and classroom space.
· Guide students through creative projects, supervise the appropriate use of materials, make suggestions, and provide feedback.
· Provide direct and indirect instructional support to students in a positive environment.
· Modify the art curriculum for students with disabilities based upon a variety of instructional techniques.
· Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining an environment conducive to learning for all students and maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
· Plan for and utilize instructional methods, resources, and evaluation techniques which motivate and enable each student to achieve learning objectives.
· Maintain accurate and complete student records and prepare reports on children and activities, as required by laws, organizational policies, and administrative regulations.
· Assist in collection of data for providing appropriate classroom interventions.
· Maintain professional competence by participating in staff development activities and other professional opportunities.
· Participates in all required agency and regulatory training within expected timeframes.
· Works collaboratively with staff, children, families, service providers, and others.
· Promptly reports civil or criminal convictions, charges, arrests, investigations, or adjudications that may arise since staff member’s last background investigation.
· Completes other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree
- PDE Certificate in Art Education
- Act 33/34 and FBI Clearances Required
- Driver’s license required
