What are the responsibilities and job description for the American Sign Language (ASL) Caregiver position at Home Instead?
We are seeking a compassionate and fluent American Sign Language (ASL) Caregiver to support a senior client with Parkinson’s disease and cognitive challenges who is Deaf. This role requires a patient and intuitive professional who can anticipate needs and assist with daily activities. Your ASL skills will be essential in facilitating effective communication, especially as the client’s signing abilities and memory decline.
Responsibilities:
- Communicate fluently with the client in ASL, ensuring clarity and understanding.
- Provide safety supervision and assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), such as bathing, dressing, and meal preparation.
- Assist the client with prescribed exercises to maintain mobility and strength.
- Offer empathetic and patient communication to support emotional and cognitive needs.
- Monitor and report any changes in the client’s condition to the care team.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment in the client’s home.
Schedule:
- Mid-afternoon hours, starting after 12:00 PM.
Qualifications:
- Fluent in American Sign Language (ASL).
- Basic knowledge of in-home caregiving, including safety protocols and ADL assistance.
- Familiarity with Parkinson’s disease and cognitive delays in senior citizens is preferred.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a strong sense of empathy.
- Ability to assist with light physical exercises.
- Reliable, punctual, and dedicated to providing exceptional care
