What are the responsibilities and job description for the Job Coach DSP position at Horizon Project, Inc.?
Horizon Project (HPI) is a nonprofit that provides support services to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). Job Coach/DSPs provide person-centered training and activities that enable our clients to achieve employment, enhanced socialization and independence, or meet other personal goals. You may be trained as a job coach and earn an additional job coaching rate when supporting clients with jobs in the community.
No experience or certifications are required! On-the-job training is provided.
Wage Range: $16 - $22 per hour, starting wage depending on experience. However, recent prior experience as a caregiver may be considered when offering a starting wage.
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8AM-4PM (40 hrs per week)
This schedule may vary based on client needs - occasional weekends and evenings are required.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Complete assigned duties at Day Support, Community Living Support, or Job Coaching.
- Follow medical procedures regarding dispensing, administering, and documenting client medication
- Follow safety procedures including understanding evacuation plans, and ensuring a clean and safe living environment for the clients
- Follow program procedures regarding client service plans, individual support plans, and action plans.
- Follow financial procedures regarding client and household bank accounts and petty cash.
- Assisting with client care including bathing, dental hygiene, transportation, housekeeping, and cooking.
- Maintain professional communication with teammates, supervisors, clients, client families, and community members.
- Promote and protect the dignity, respect, and independence of our clients

Work Schedule
The normal work schedule will vary to accommodate the schedules of the clients supported which may include evening and weekends. It is the attendance standard of the employer that all employees shall be present and on time for each shift that they are scheduled to work. Time off may be approved if allowed by applicable policies covering illness, injury, or another personal emergency.
Physical Demands
Position is active in nature. Must be able to monitor and observe the activities of program participants. Regularly move about or position self to supervise and interact with participants at their level. Occasionally lift, transport, position, push/pull or move up to 50 pounds using proper lifting techniques. Must be sufficiently mobile and possess a range of motion to perform repetitive standing, walking, balancing, stooping, bending, crouching, crawling, sitting on the floor, reaching, squatting, kneeling, and twisting. Ability to react quickly to the physical actions of program participant. Administrative and supervisory activities will require ability to operate keyboard-driven equipment. Ability to communicate verbally and in writing. Sufficiently mobile to attend activities and meetings within the County. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
Work Environment
This is primarily a community-based job and will involve interaction with intellectually and/or developmentally disabled individuals which can result in physical contact and/or verbal exchanges. This location will be determined by the employment of the client who requires job coaching.
