What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bartender | Full-Time position at Hotel ZaZa | Museum District?

Summary: To deliver prompt, courteous service according to Hotel ZaZa service and operating standards while mixing and serving both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, light food meals to guests seated at the bar, restaurant, or swimming pool. Also mixing both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages for server orders, and ensuring the drink orders are completed in a timely manner. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Essential Functions:

  • Greet all guests promptly in a friendly manner.
  • Up sell and suggestive sell to guests.
  • Delivery of drink and light meal orders to guests in a timely and professional manner.
  • Monitor guests drinks, and anticipate needs.
  • Mixing and producing drinks, completing orders of guests and other servers.
  • Clean bar, bar walk-ins and liquor storage areas as assigned.
  • Fill requisitions to par levels.
  • Completes all opening and closing side work (i.e. stocking dishes, silverware, folding napkins, wiping down counters, posting specials, etc.)
  • Maintains and frequently stocks bars with needed items, (e.g. wine and draught or bottled beer, mixers ingredients such as liquor, soda, water, sugar, and bitters to prepare cocktails and other drinks.) as assigned.
  • Slices and pits fruit for garnishing drinks.
  • Supplies and replenishes bar snacks.
  • Arranges bottles and glasses to make attractive display.
  • Display working knowledge of all menu items, including daily specials, and prices.
  • Presents menu, answers questions, and makes suggestions regarding food and service.
  • Suggestively sell premium brands and foods.
  • Takes orders from guests or server.
  • Display knowledge of drink recipes, drink, and wine specials, merchandising.
  • Display knowledge of basic drink service and bar terminology.
  • Request proof of age from guests when legal age is questioned.
  • Prepare and serve cocktail orders in a timely manner.
  • Inquire as to whether the guest would like to "run a tab"
  • Serves guests beverage order according to Hotel ZaZa operating standards.
  • Be present at bar at all times.
  • Computes bill, accepts payment and open and closes check.
  • Sincerely, thank guests for coming and ask them to return again.
  • Detect and act upon customer inebriation as trained.
  • Display knowledge of liquor laws.
  • Adhere to grooming guidelines, wear Z-Pin, proper uniform standards.
  • Follow all proper Hotel safety policies and procedures and sue safety equipment as needed.
  • Complete other duties as assigned by manager to include cross training.
  • Keep work area clean and organized.
  • Balance bank and daily receipts.

Tools and Equipment:

  • Coffee maker/urn, beverage machines, dishware, silverware, glassware, and accompanying bar supplies, telephone, and POS.

Working Environment:

  • Interior of hotel, in the bar, restaurant, pool area and kitchen.
  • Exposure to hazardous cleaning chemicals, extreme temperatures, and various food and beverage items that may be allergens.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to:

  • Stand;
  • Walk;
  • Use hands to handle, or feel;
  • Reach with hands and arms;
  • Climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl;
  • Talk or hear and taste or smell;
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds; able to push and pull objects
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job to see, read, write, and use a computer
  • Must be able to communicate with guests in English.
