The HSE Specialist position supports a safe working environment and safety culture by assisting in: the management of the safety program; the development, communication, and promotion of our safety policy; operations and fleet inspections; the assessment of risk for the company and fleet along with offering ideas to reduce the risk; maintaining compliance with appropriate government regulations (i.e. OSHA, ANSI, MSHA);
Essential Job Duties:
Maintain Hugg & Hall safety program
- Making branch visits reviewing compliance with safety policy - 30% travel time
- Assisting in all accident investigations and determining root cause
- Assisting in documenting unsafe practices including warnings for personnel file
- Offering suggestions for safety improvement with follow-up implementation
- Maintaining and updating our Safety Management System
- Reporting all workers compensation claims, reports and investigations for assigned locations to the HSE Director
- Assisting in the maintenance of the SDS system
- Assisting in tracking Safety Tasks assigned to each branch/dept
- Perform operational training for mobile equipment as needed.
Develop, communicate and promote our safety policy/programs
- Offering suggestions for improvement to our safety policies manuals
- Conducting safety meetings
- Help with preparing monthly safety meetings
- Listening to our employees and report and act on valid concerns
- Knowing our policies/programs
- Answering questions on a timely basis with inquiries regarding safety
- Assisting in preparation for supervisor department meeting as requested
- Communicating with managers and supervisors on a regular basis on safety matters
Inspect our operations and vehicle fleet
- Conducting planned inspections, including quarterly safety facility audits
- Watching for unsafe acts and conditions in all daily activities
- Assist in branch assigned inspections for accuracy and completion
Assess the risk for our company operations
- Bringing together all facts and information to offer suggestions for improvement
- Traveling to location for oversight in injury management process immediately upon occurrence as necessary based on the severity of incident
Review and keep company compliance with all OSHA, ANSI, and EPA regulations
- Staying current on the regulations that apply to the company operations
- Performing or outsourcing training required by the regulations
Manage and coordinate branch facility issues and repairs
- Work with management on identifying and reporting facility issues
- Work with approved vendors for issue corrections
- Assist with approving vendors and coordinating repairs
- Assist with vendor invoicing and coding for accounts payable
Qualifications:
Required Skills/Experience
3 years' experience with safety compliance preferred
Strong written/verbal communication skills at all levels
Strong computer skills with ability to pick up various platforms
Strong researching ability to digest government regulations
Ability to organize and prioritize responsibilities
Ability to multi-task and work with deadlines
Ability to work in environment of repeated interruptions
Education
College degree or equivalent work experience
Degree in safety emphasis preferred
Physical Demands/Environmental Conditions:
This position will be working in operating facilities and outdoors traveling to company operational sites and customer locations. The employee will encounter varying weather conditions and temperatures. The normal auto hazards will apply. Travel is required.
This position is continuously required to talk or hear; regularly required to sit, stand, walk, or climb. This position requires frequent use of a computer keyboard while reading the computer screen.
Must be able to lift up to 100 pounds on occasion.
Position requires driving vehicle to and from assigned locations and customer locations.
This position is deemed a Safety Sensitive job for purposes of the Arkansas Medical Marijuana Amendment, the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana and Patient Protection Act and the Louisiana Therapeutic Marijuana Act.
