Staff Accountant

Overview

Hughes Lumber Company supplies materials for residential home building in Oklahoma and Texas. The company headquarters is located at the Tulsa Port of Catoosa and supports local branches in 8 cities. The staff accountant will support the Controller in preparing financial reports in a timely and accurate manner. The position will be on-site at the Port of Catoosa office.

Responsibilities

• Assist in monthly close processes including preparing journal entries, accruals, and adjustments
• Prepare and review financial statements for each branch location as well as the consolidated group
• Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, ensuring accurate recording of transactions throughout the organization
• Perform bank reconciliations for multiple bank accounts
• Perform account reconciliation for all balance sheet accounts
• Account for all fixed assets including depreciation and disposal utilizing fixed asset software
• Analyze inventory and review cycle count data to ensure accurate reporting
• Prepare and remit sales tax for various jurisdictions
• Prepare and remit property and real estate taxes for various jurisdictions
• Any other assignments related to the financial and accounting functions of the company

Required skills and qualifications

• Strong understanding of accounting principles, practices, and regulations
• Commitment to continuing education and training to comply with changes and advances in the accounting sphere
• Ability to analyze financial data and provide insights
• Proficient in accounting software and tools, especially Microsoft Excel
• Ability to communicate with team members to gather data and solve problems

Preferred skills and qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field
• One or more years relevant experience preferred
• Resourceful mindset and strong attention to detail
• CPA track preferred
