What are the responsibilities and job description for the Admissions Counselor position at Human Learning Systems?
The Outreach and Admissions Counselor provides support for a U.S Department of Labor Job Corps contractor. The Job Corps program is a federally-funded residential training program. The mission of Job Corps is to provide career-ready technical and basic skills (academic) training and job placement assistance to program eligible youth ages 16-24.
Summary of Duties:
Performs Outreach and Admissions activities which include working in partnership with individuals, communities, organizations, schools, social services agencies and other training programs to promote and foster applicant referral.
Significant Responsibilities:
- Ensures that the Job Corps program maintains a positive public image, strong community and employer partnerships, a pool of eligible and committed applicants, and full utilization of the Job Corps training opportunities.
- Performs and delivers quality Job Corps outreach, admissions and re-admissions services and support within an assigned geographical area.
- Recruits eligible youth to the Job Corps program and maintains commitment of students recruited to the program.
- Maintains weekly contact with all applicants pending arrival and documents all contact.
- Assist applicants in developing a career and employability plan.
- Participates in evening and weekend outreach/recruitment activities as necessary or assigned.
- Travels, as needed, for outreach, and file completion.
- Provides all applicants with accurate information about Job Corps, including the process for eligibility determination, selection, and assignment of eligible applicants for enrollment; privacy rights and equal employment opportunity information, reasonable accommodation information, and information concerning voluntary enrollment in Job Corps for each individual.
- Conducts pre-enrollment, pre-departure, and departure activities to ensure all enrollees arrive at the assigned center as scheduled, and that each new arrival knows what to expect upon arrival and enrollment at the center.
- Conducts follow-up and retention/commitment activities with enrolled students once they arrive on center and throughout their center experience, especially during the first 90 days.
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in human services, psychology, counseling, education, social science, communications, or closely related field
OR
-
Associate’s degree in human services, psychology, counseling, education, social science, communications, or closely related field, and two years related experience
- Experience may include successful Job Corps outreach and admissions experience or successful outreach and admissions experience with other youth development programs.
- Experience in counseling, marketing, or education is desired.
