The Humane Society of Missouri is seeking a dedicated and passionate individual to join our Animal Cruelty Task Force as an Animal Cruelty Investigator. This vital role involves investigating cases of animal neglect, abuse, and abandonment, while promoting responsible animal care through education and community engagement. Location: St. Louis, MO (primarily serving St. Louis city/county region)
Primary Responsibilities:
- Conduct thorough investigations of reported cases related to animal neglect, abuse, and abandonment
- Educate pet and livestock owners about responsible animal care and welfare
- Promote awareness of humane practices and responsible pet ownership within the community
- Collaborate with the Animal Cruelty Task Force to rescue animals in distressing conditions or during disasters
- Assist with dispatching duties/functions as required
Qualifications:
- 3-12 months of relevant education/experience in animal handling or investigation
- Strong passion for animal welfare and a commitment to promoting responsible pet ownership
- Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
- Proficiency in handling animals with care and compassion
- Ability to maintain professionalism in challenging and emotionally charged situations
- Willingness to work weekends and be available for on-call duties
- Capacity to travel as needed for rescues and disaster response
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, and challenging emotional setting
- Must reside within 30 minutes of our Macklind Ave. Adoption Center
