What are the responsibilities and job description for the Safety Management Systems (SMS) Manager position at Hyannis Air Service Inc?
SUMMARY:
The SMS Manager is responsible for the development, coordination, and continuous improvement of the company’s SMS; which includes the management of the Safety Risk Management (SRM) Process, support of Safety Assurance Programs, and Safety Promotion.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for maintaining and continuously improving the company’s SMS to ensure compliance with regulatory and industry standard
- Regularly reports SMS performance and improvement needs to the Director of Safety (DOS)
- Responsible for, maintaining, and enhancing all aspects of the SRM Process
- Facilitate cross-departmental collaboration on SRM activities
- Responsible for SMS databases, tracking systems, and records to ensure accuracy and compliance
- Assist in building safety awareness and engagement across departments
- Manage, maintain, and enhance all SMS materials, including training content and records
- Analyze safety data through safety assurance mechanisms to enhance safety performance
- Develop insights and outputs from performance data, supporting SMS objectives and risk assessments
- Provide analytical support, leveraging analysis tools and other data sources to generate actionable insights and identify trends
- Assist with internal audits and preparations for external/codeshare audits.
- Assist the DOS and respective teams on accident/incident investigations
- Assist with developing and executing Emergency Response activities.
- Work on special teams as required
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Operational experience in aviation/airline operations, safety programs, safety standards and operating practices; required
- Excellent leadership skills with a minimum of 2 years of management experience; required
- 5 years of aviation/airline experience or bachelor’s degree in aviation with equivalent work experience; highly preferred
- FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate, FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) Certificate, or FAA Aircraft Dispatcher Certificate; highly preferred
- Knowledge and experience of safety data analysis programs, with the ability to interpret trends, metrics, and performance indicators
- Self-starter, strong work ethic, able to work alone and with other professionals at any level
- Excellent organizational, time, and task management skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Suite products
