Description
Position Summary
The Bookkeeper role supports the Finance Director in the administrative finance functions. Areas of expertise for this position include managing the accounts payable process and the accounts receivable process, recordkeeping, preparing reconciliations, and data entry. The Bookkeeper ensures that accounting is accurate, and filing is maintained in an orderly and accurate manner. The Bookkeeper contributes to team efforts by accomplishing related results.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Manage the accounts payable process
  • Manage accounts receivable process
  • Recordkeeping. Ensuring Accounts payable transactions and accounts receivable records are complete and properly stored. Recordkeeping will also apply to other financial documents as determined.
  • Account reconciliation: Prepare reconciliations (i.e., bank reconciliations, credit card reconciliations, general ledger accounts, etc.)
  • Prepare Bi-weekly Payroll
  • Subrecipient Monitoring
  • Data entry: Entering and processing accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger entries, etc.; Entering daily transactions for all our programs using several software platforms
  • Perform self-review to ensure that accounting is accurate
  • Maintaining filing in an orderly and accurate manner
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Running errands (bank deposits, etc.)
  • Supportive Duties to Other Departments as Necessary
  • Answer phones
  • Assist with phone/email sales & guest paperwork
  • Assist with other administrative & operational tasks as necessary
Qualifications / Knowledge
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field or 2 years of applicable experience, or a combination of education and relevant work experience
  • Intermediate proficiency in business applications, such as Microsoft Office; intermediate Excel skills
  • Knowledge of and experience with online accounting systems
  • Valid Alaska driver's license, access to an automobile with appropriate insurance and registration

  • Understanding of and ability to apply accounting skills and concepts
  • Demonstrated communication skills, including the ability to communicate information clearly and effectively to internal audiences, customers, and vendors
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and prioritize while working independently
  • High degree of attention to detail
  • Strong writing, proofreading, and communication skills
  • Ability to function in a team-based environment with cooperative working styles
  • Self-directed and motivated; able to work independently
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
Supervisory Relationship
Received
  • Works under the direct supervision of the Finance Director. Performance is assessed through review of work, integration, and cooperation within the Department and APCA, communication with all stakeholders, quality and timeliness of deliverables and associated criteria.
Language Skills
Required
  • Fluency in written and spoken English required.
  • Superior written and oral communication skills.
Travel Required
In-city travel by personal vehicle for meetings, tasks, and errands as needed. In-state travel may occur. Mileage is reimbursed per APCA policy.
Hours per Week
This is a full-time position, 40 hours/week. Generally, hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Work Environment
Duties will generally be performed in an office setting with travel and associated accommodations throughout the local area, the state of Alaska, and the Lower 48 as needed.
