The Illinois Municipal Electric Agency is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Electric Operations Analyst to join our Operations team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in enhancing operational efficiency and supporting strategic decision-making through data analysis and project management. This position requires strong analytical skills, proficiency in various software tools, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams. This member of the Operations team is responsible for analyzing, interpreting and optimizing data related to electric system operations, performance, and reliability. Reports to the Vice President, Electric Operations.
Duties
1. Utilize in-house and third party energy forecasting and modeling software to develop and maintain energy models for usage by the Operations department.
2. Conduct modeling and forecasting simulations to assess the impact of various scenarios on power system operations and performance to extract actionable insights and support decision-making.
3. Use statistical methods and data visualization tools to identify trends, anomalies, and areas for improvement.
4. Develop and enhance existing dashboards and visualizations for stakeholders to track key performance indicators (KPIs).
5. Under the direction of the Operations Management team, develop and refine internal operations performance models and analytics to optimize agency resources and strategy.
6. Daily support of power systems data tracking including system loads and energy markets outcomes in order to provide Operations Management with analytics to comply with regulatory frameworks and optimize energy market activity.
7. Conduct month-end duties including month-end correspondence and checkouts.
8. Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and regulations related to energy systems and power markets.
9. Prepare and review documentation to support regulatory filings and compliance reports.
a. Maintain and enhance databases related to electric system operations.
b. Ensure data integrity and security through regular audits and updates.
10. Report on IMEA Members’ generation outages for purposes of assessing penalties.
11. Collect and prepare data submittal for governmental agencies including FERC and the Energy Information Administration, etc.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Economics, Business or a related field. In lieu of a degree requirement, consideration may be given to candidates with 2-4 years of energy or commodities markets experience.
- Proven experience in data analysis, preferably within the electric utility sector and Familiarity with electric system operations and grid management is preferred.
- Advanced computer skills to include the ability to develop new applications in spreadsheets and database software as well as the ability to use other position-specific software to develop needed applications.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively on routine and complex matters with IMEA staff and members.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
