JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Instructor ‐ Career Technical Education Instructor
Position Scope:
A certificated position under the supervision of the Coordinator of Education or designee, the Career Technical Education Instructor will provide career and technical educational instruction to 9th‐12th grade students and/or adults in the assigned subject area to facilitate entry‐level employment skills, enhance existing skills or in preparation for advanced training.
Essential Duties:
1. Provide career and technical education instruction to students in assigned subject area; may include instruction, problem solving and job seeking skills to prepare the students for the real world of work.
2. Prepare instructional materials, class curriculum, and develop lesson plans.
3. Provide students with course syllabus.
4. Provide instruction for students in employment skills, life management, self‐sufficiency, and computer technology.
5. Administer a variety of assessment instruments, including tests, to measure student progress.
6. Collaborate with other personnel to determine the educational needs of students; set up individual educational plans to instruct each student.
7. Prepare and maintain all records and reports related to attendance, grades, progress, and activities; submit all documents on time.
8. Establish and maintain relationships with local employers to develop training or to place
students at worksites or in community internships, as assigned.
9. Maintain confidentiality regarding participants, students, personnel, and all internal
organization information.
10. Perform other related duties assigned by the Supervisor.
Education, Experience and Skills Required:
1. High School diploma or equivalent required.
2. Valid Designated Subjects Career Technical Education Teaching Credential authorizing the instruction in appropriate subject area OR have 3 years experience in Computer Applications or Programming, Computer Repair, Culinary Arts/Food Technology, Energy/Electrical, Health Occupations, Law Enforcement, Truck Driving or other trade (1 year of experience must have been in the last 5 years or 2 years of experience in the last 10 years ‐‐ college units may qualify as experience), and be willing to obtain a California Designated Subjects Career Technical Education Teaching Credential.
3. Prior teaching experience desired.
4. Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English; ability to address an elected board.
5. Ability to drive a personal vehicle to conduct work; travel to other sites; meetings and workshops; travel in county and out of county.
6. Ability to type 30 wpm and do basic business arithmetic.

7. Practical application of MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, and MS PowerPoint for Windows is required.
8. Ability to use standard office machines such as a personal computer, calculator, copier, fax machine, telephone, etc.
9. Valid California Driver’s License and evidence of minimum liability insurance.
Physical Requirements: Visual/hearing ability sufficient to comprehend written/verbal and telephone communication. Ability to sit for long periods, standing, computer entry, walking, reaching, repeated bending, lifting, and carrying up to 20 lbs. Ability to travel within and outside the county as needed.
Environmental Requirements: Must be able to work indoors in a predominately sedentary position. Wide range of physical motion required to include bending, twisting, standing, walking, carrying boxes and supplies, sitting for long periods of time, answering the telephone, using hands to type and enter data and perform a wide range of office and clerical duties. This position may involve activities, such as provide career and technical education instruction to students in assigned subject area; may include instruction, problem solving and job seeking skills to prepare the students for the real world of work, which require in‐person interactions that may increase the risk of being exposed to COVID‐19 and other communicable diseases.
Scheduling and Availability: Hours of work and schedule are determined based upon
program needs. Hours per week will vary and may require a flexible schedule that includes working evenings or weekends.
