Position Summary
The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the Managed Care accounting team. This will include managing the day-to-day accounting operations of the department, providing technical and procedural guidance to direct reports, timely preparation of monthly financial reporting, and preparation of NAIC statutory statements. In addition, the Manager will support the Director and CFO with other duties as assigned.
Essential Functions
- Hire, supervise, train and evaluate staff. Supervision will include:
- Journal entry preparation, review, and entry
- Bank and cash management daily activities
- Billing and collections
- Accounts payable oversight and review
- Audit workpapers and other schedules needed for monthly and annual oversight of plan operations.
- Oversee preparation of month-end, quarter-end and year-end financial statements in accordance with GAAP and Statutory accounting principles; Prepare quarterly and annual NAIC statutory financial statements for management review.
- Develop, implement, monitor and update financial policies and procedures as required.
- Establish and implement short- and long-range departmental goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures.
- Ensure maintenance of appropriate internal controls and financial procedures; provide recommendations for process, policy, and procedural improvements as part of continuous improvement.
- Design, establish, and maintain an organizational structure and staffing to effectively accomplish the department's goals and objectives.
- Mentor and develop the team of direct reports, managing work allocation, training, problem resolution, performance evaluation, and the building of an effective team dynamic.
- Ensure compliance with Medicare and Medicare reporting requirements, rules, and regulations for all health plan financial functions.
- Assist the Director, FCC and HPMP Accounting in setting and achieving goals.
- Interact with other departments to identify and resolve issues and improve overall efficiency of finance department.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education And Experience
- Requires a BS/BA in Accounting or Finance
- 5 years of progressive financial experience including accounting and financial reporting.
Required Skills
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Medicare experience preferred.
- Managed care experience a plus.
