We have an exciting opportunity available for a Senior Instructional Designer to join the Learning and Development team at our Downtown Indianapolis location on a hybrid schedule. Previous experience in corporate or healthcare learning design, utilizing AI-powered design tools, and demonstrated experience in developing employee learning programs is needed to be successful in this role.
The Senior Instructional Designer utilizes instructional design methodologies to design and develop relevant and scalable learning experiences for team members at all levels within IU Health. This role provides functional expertise to build increasingly complex, multi-tiered curricula using a variety of learning methods.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with subject matter experts to identify training needs and goals, then create content and modern learning experiences that aligns with them.
- Apply tested instructional design theories, practices, and methods to create engaging learning experiences and compelling course content in various delivery formats (e.g., instructor-led, synchronous and asynchronous, micro-learning, gamification).
- Design and develop instructional materials, including instructional graphics and supporting media (e.g., audio, video, simulations, role-plays, games).
- Design and deliver assessments or formal evaluations to determine learning effectiveness.
- Develop and lead project plans that support business needs and are executable within time and budget constraints, covering all phases from scoping, research/analysis, design, and development.
- Maintain project documentation and course folders.
- Provide consultations and serve as an expert resource to IU Health business partners on the design, development, evaluation, and revision of learning outcomes, course modality, visual design, high-impact learning practices, adult education principles, accessibility issues, copyright, and effective assessment strategies.
Our Ideal Candidate would have:
- Experience in Corporate or Healthcare learning design.
- Experience using AI design tools (Synthesia, ChatGPT or similar, etc.) to create engaging learning experiences with rapid development.
- Experience building modern learning videos, graphics, simulations, gamification, and other engaging learning experience elements.
- Experience organizing content from stakeholders in an easily digestible format that enhances learning retention and knowledge transfer.
- Designing learning experiences optimized for mobile devices.
- Experience in UX design in applying UX principles to create intuitive and engaging learning interfaces, is a plus.
- Experience in incorporating Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) into training programs for immersive learning experiences, is a plus.

- Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Adult Education, or equivalent years of experience is required. Master's degree is preferred.
- 5-7 years of relevant Instructional Design and Development experience is required.
- Requires extensive knowledge of instructional design methodology (e.g., ADDIE), rapid design/development methodology, adult learning theory, and assessment tools.
- Requires high proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Requires demonstrated skills using standard authoring and graphic design tools (e.g., Articulate Storyline/Rise, Adobe Captivate, Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft PowerPoint, FSPro, etc.).
- Requires strong project management skills.
- Experience working in a large, highly matrixed clinical/business organization is preferred.
- Certified Professional in Learning & Performance (CPLP) is preferred.
