The Backup Recovery Engineer will provide information technology services to support a small U.S. federal government agency in Washington, DC. This position will have a primary focus on data protection and recovery on Unix/Linux & Windows NetBackup system platforms. This includes delivering technical infrastructure services for design, engineering, maintenance and support of the agency's enterprise data backup and recovery environments in Windows, Unix/Linux, and the Cloud. Broad experience in system administration and strong technical knowledge in this specific technology area is required. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES: - Provide design and support services for backup and recovery systems.
- Provide support in the Implementation and maintenance of cloud-based technologies.
- Maintain logs of server events, maintenance, outages, and failures.
- Configure, maintain, patch, and troubleshoot client software and hardware, whether onsite or remote.
- Participate in the integration and testing of all new or modified infrastructure operations software to include migration to new standards.
- Maintain documentation to include, but not limited to, hardware and software logistics and asset management inventories, configurations, network charts, and cabling diagrams.
- Coordinate and collaborate with cross-functional teams, stakeholders, and vendors for the smooth functioning of the enterprise data system
- Ability to multi-task as well as be strategic, creative, and innovative in a dynamic, fast paced matrixed team environment. Comfortable with ambiguity as needs change on a regular basis.
- Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate across diverse audiences and influence cross functionally.
- Evaluate new hardware and software for compatibility with IT services.
- Provide monitoring and operational support for services during normal business hours, as well as off-hour monitoring and on call problem response and operational support as required.
- Provide support for user accounts, file and print, messaging system, document management, user authentication, address management, name resolution, database management systems, backup and restore. Some server support functions may require visits to the datacenters in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.
- Provide support configuring, operating, managing, maintaining, patching servers, laptops, and peripherals. This includes providing support at geographically dispersed contractor-located datacenters.
- Provide support for maintenance, updates, and upgrades to operating system components and add-ons, drivers, and documentation, assuring consistency, compatibility within and among servers, and avoiding down time for users.
DESIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: - US Citizenship and ability to obtain a high-level pubic trust clearance required
- Expertise with NetBackup 9.0/10.0
- Ten (10) years of experience performing systems engineering duties within the technology environments listed below:
- Backup and Recovery Solutions in Unix/Linux, Windows & Cloud Environments: NetBackup, Metallic, Commvault, AWS Backup
- Virtual Environments: Amazon Web Services (e.g., Cloudfront, VPC, API Gateway, EC2, RDS), VMWare (ESX, VCenter, VSphere ), Citrix XenApp, XenDesktop & Netscaler
- Windows OS & Server Environments: Microsoft Window Server (Server 2016 & 2019, Windows 10/11), SQL Server, Exchange, Active Directory, PowerShell Scripting, DHCP, DNS, File Server Services, Internet Information Service (IIS), Local/Global Group Policy, Manage Engine Endpoint Central, Windows System Center Operations Manager
- Microsoft Applications: Microsoft O365, Teams, Intune, OneDrive, SharePoint/SharePoint Online, Exchange Online.
