We are excited to share an opportunity for a Chemist position with the Food Emergency Response Network (FERN). If you have a strong background in analytical chemistry and method validation, this role offers a chance to contribute to critical food safety initiatives.
Position Overview
In this role, you will assist with method development, optimization, and validation for food matrices as part of the FERN program. Key responsibilities include:
- Performing FDA method validations for metals and mycotoxins using advanced analytical instrumentation, including:
- Thermo iCAP ICP-OES with Qtegra software.
- Thermo QExactive LC-HRAMS with Tracefinder software.
- Conducting analyses, compiling data packets, peer reviewing, and entering data into Excel spreadsheets.
- Writing validation reports and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Preparing reagents and standards, cleaning laboratory equipment, disposing of chemicals, and maintaining inventory.
Qualifications
Required Skills and Experience:
- 4 years of experience working as a chemist in a related field.
- Hands-on experience with analytical instrumentation such as ICP-OES, ICP-MS, LC-MSMS, or LC-HRAMS.
- Proficiency in scientific writing, pipetting, troubleshooting, and good documentation practices.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Experience performing method development and validation on analytical instruments.
- Familiarity with Thermo iCAP Pro ICP-OES with Qtegra software and/or Thermo QExactive LC-HRAMS with Tracefinder software.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, Toxicology, or a related science field is required.

Pay: $30.00 - $34.00 per hour
